I had to get some of my ARs out and take a look. None of mine has a z mark on it. Only have the one colt (pencil barrel). I have two carry handles and no z on them (non-colt). Thanks for sharing my friend.

Hit or miss on the detachable "Z" mark depending on who made it. Not sure but I think all the Colts had it? Thanks for watching Brant!

I realize you discovered the "differences" your rifle had AFTER it had been bought, but JEEZ!! I would have been infuriated had I landed in that situation!! Take a look through some of the videos of a channel called "Small Arms Solutions". The guy worked at Colt and saw how they made one terrible decision after another...I am not aware of anyone on the net who is more knowledgeable about AR's! Check it out!

I was in a hurry to buy the Sporter as the California AWB was just around the corner and I did not know what Colt was up to back then. My first choice was actually a Bushmaster as they were considered just as good or maybe a little better and also had some military contracts at the time. Bushmaster was completely sold out in San Diego County at the time. It's probably more infuriating now then it was when I was oblivious! Lol! I watch quite a few of Chris's videos and he is absolutely the go to Colt expert! Thanks for commenting and watching Alanna!

The barrel markings seem legit but I wanted to kick myself when I saw how bad the roll stamp on the receiver was! I'm usually pretty good about catching stuff like that even back then when I was younger and less focused.

Slightly late to viewing this video., but that bullet” from KNS…, is “frickin” genius..! I have a green label, government carbine, fixed handle, bought in the 1990’s (Clinton AWB) era. I think I gave $475-525’ish for it. At that time I bought those KNS push pins to get away from the threaded ones, and be able to put a different sling style on the gun. I packed it around with me for 15yrs of my 25yrs in L.E., It has thousands of rounds thru it., never any problem(s)… Love it, light weight barrel, iron sights (with a Trijicon front post), weapon light hanging off that “god awful scary-deadly” bayonet lug… It is the home defense weapon that gets set out, beside my bed at at night… Hahaha…, probably way too much info., in a comment.

The KNS push pins are a little bit of a pain but better than the original screw and nut! You push on the button from one side to release and then you're pushing against that from the opposite side! It's a little tricky at first but I've developed a technique that works well. The first few times with their design I'm like WTH! I usually replace the entire trigger when using the KNS anti-walk/rotate pins so I have only used the guide bullet a couple of times just replacing the pins with the original trigger still installed but it works great! No civilian law enforcement experience but I was on SAF/BAF shipboard security teams, a Brig Chaser for awhile and the usual crap load of Shore Patrol while deployed.

Finally! Some info on the Competition model thank you! I recently bought a Target Competition model and have been pretty confused about a lot of things. Any idea what years they were produced? The roll seal on mine is somewhat washed out as well. And what are the advantages of grinding the sear block and using a different bolt carrier?
@peteregger7928 Жыл бұрын
I did a couple of videos after this one where I completely removed the sear block in order to replace the trigger that was going bad. The sear block trigger was also proprietary by Colt to fit along side the sear block and no other trigger will work. Grinding the sear block down for clearance allows the use of any BCG otherwise you're stock with the proprietary carrier which is now unobtainium. If your BCG carrier and trigger are in good shape there's not really a reason to do it.

@@peteregger7928 hey Peter I’ve watched a lot of your videos in the last 24 hours and I see you did it out of necessity but it’s very informative in case you just want to do it. I knew nothing about ARs until I bought my Match Target Competition just a few weeks ago and it was a total impulse buy because to me it looks like a M16 lol. What I have learned about it and Colt in general in the past few weeks has me rethinking my purchase and considering selling it for the right price. I do like it but it’s not what I thought it was lol.

@@jaymesmustaine684 I have three older Colts and two of them are the sear block versions. @@peteregger7928 hey Peter I just looked at my rifle and it has the internal sear block so I’m guessing it’s not as old as I thought, maybe 2000s? Anyway, it looks like I can replace the trigger and bolt carrier without fooling with the sear block, right? Is there any advantage to replacing the bolt carrier with the m16 bolt like you did or any other kind of bolt carrier? Thanks!
@peteregger7928 Жыл бұрын
@@jaymesmustaine684 Not sure if there's any real advantage as far as BCG's go other than just being able to run whatever you want like Nickel Boron or a Nitrided. If you have the pinned, riveted steel sear block it will have to be removed to replace the trigger with what is presently on the market. Large pin modular drop in or the large pin MilSpec type. Colt later did away with the sear block and just left the lower partially machined, unfinished leaving a bridge across the receiver from side to side to prevent an auto sear or DIAS (drop in auto sear) from being installed. This later change allowed you to run whatever trigger or BCG you wanted. Sometime after the so called "Assault Weapons Ban" sunsetted they went back to properly machining the receiver but I'm not sure if they machined the receiver low shelf or high shelf. Someone more knowledgeable about Colt than I am could answer that one or maybe just call Colt. I haven't purchased a Colt since the 90's so I'm not sure what they are doing for shelf height these days? Not that it really matters?

Any idea when milling the barrel for a flash hider,instead of milling it down to say.223 mill it down to .45 and use a 45 cal flash hiders without taking a lot of metal off,advantage/disadvantage,I have been told by several gunsmiths that milling it down to .223 will hurt accuracy,I just thought going with the .45 your not milling as much metal therefore not affecting accuracy,any thoughts.i hope this is understandable,thanks!!!

Usually Winchester White Box 5.56mm 55 gr. Sometimes Frontier Hornady 62 gr. non-steel core. Rarely shoot anything NATO designated although some of the White Box stuff still has crimped primers without the NATO symbol head stamp.

But why? To what end? What does the full auto carrier accomplish for you? I wouldn’t use anti walk pins. They’re a gimmick. They do more harm and zero good. The hammer pin was designed to rotate. Antinwalk pins put all of that force on the pin itself. They often break and then wreak havoc inside the lower.
@peteregger792811 ай бұрын
The original trigger was bad. I was told twice by two different representatives during two different phone calls at Geissele that the large pin trigger they offered at the time would not work with a sear block lower. That turned out to be incorrect! The Velocity one piece modular trigger requires anti-walk trigger pins as it has no other means to capture the pins. I have no personal experience with damage caused by anti-walk pins and quite a few of my rifles have them. I'm of the opposite belief that the hammer rotating around the pin causes little or no wear as opposed to the pin rotating and wearing out the receiver bore. I haven't used anything but KNS Precision so I have no experience with pin breakage. I also believe that some of the hammer pin force is now also transferred to the trigger pin so the load is spread across two pins and two receiver pin bores when using the connected style anti-walk and/or modular one piece style triggers. I do not use anti-walk with Milspec style triggers and see no benefit as the pins are captured by the hammer "J" hook spring and trigger spring legs. Large pin triggers are hard to find and other than Geissele no one else that I know of makes one for sear block lower. I also had the barrel threaded and installed an A2 flash hider. Match Targets back then only came with a crowned muzzle. More "Colt" blasphemy Lol!

I cant get a straight answer , some are saying yes and some are saying no , could you use semi auto BCGs for a sear block lower?
@peteregger79286 ай бұрын
The only BCG carrier you can use is the one that has the lower half of the tail machined off. The standard AR semi or M16 carrier will not work with the sear block lower. Colt was the only one that made them. You could machine the lower half tail off of an AR semi or M16 carrier to work.
