I recently bought an new production, made in 2019 Colt SAA in 45 Colt. I have a second generation Colt SAA in 45 Colt that was made in 1962 and has seen an lot of use. The day after getting the new Colt, I got the old Colt back from Spring Creek Armory. They welded and recut the hammer notches and replaced the hammer cam. My birthday was the next day. It seemed only fitting to compare the two.

Much respect for you shooting black powder of these! Too many people are scared to get their Colts dirty, but they end up never really enjoying them!

Black powder is filthy stuff that clogs up the cylinder very fast and requires constant cleaning with soap & water after each use. I tried it and soon left it on the shelf. It is much nicer to shoot my SA army with modern clean burning powders and you can shoot all day long without cylinder cycling issues that cause main spring stress.

@@701CPD Excellent. Problem is, too many purists won't insist on one in Colt SAAs and replicas. CAS people need to learn they can do their sport and still be safe. (And have the full capacity for their weapon.)

If you like the Colt SA army and think its a masterpiece you should look into the Standard Manufacturing made SA army models produced today in Connecticut USA by true craftsmen that make all the old Colts look like they were made by second hand craftsmen. Neither of them are inexpensive guns regardless of maker. But the Standard Manufacturing guns are clearly made much better today than Colt could make them back in the day before CZ firearms bought out Colt last year.

It's ok. Frankly... as far as shooting goes, my Uberti Cattlemans do just fine. After I got the Colt opened up, there was a lot of clean up work left to do in the action that would have taken 10 more minutes for a skilled builder at Colt to fix. I really wanted another second generation Colt SAA but they were more expensive than this new one!

@@mountainman.4478 - In CA handguns cannot be sold unless they are on the state's approved list. The good news is that single action revolvers are exempted from having to be on the list. Long live the single action! Just as surely as automatic transmissions are made for people that don't want to learn how to drive, double action revolvers are made for people that don't want to learn how to shoot.

@bibbyman2
@bibbyman2 4 жыл бұрын
The Cowboy 45 Special, C45S for short, was a custom made cartridge made by cutting a 45 Colt case to the same length as 45ACP. It become popular with Cowboy action shooters because of the smaller case volume ment more efficient use of powder. It can be used in 45 Colt handguns without modifications. In some lever action rifles with some modifications to the rifle. The case has went through several owners but now is owned by Starline Brass. www.starlinebrass.com/45-cowboy-special/

@@bibbyman2 - I checked out the link to the Starline Brass website and noticed that they are out of stock and are not taking backorders. The first comment on that site mentioned the advantage of the Ruger Blackhawk Convertible that has separate cylinders for .45 Long Colt and .45 ACP. I have one, but I don't think I would use black powder in it because it is more involved to take apart for a complete cleaning than the Colt SAA.

@@jamesday7344 yeah I took out my 50 year old 22 Peacemaker after this comment and my way didn’t seem right, the cylinder would still rotate backwards onto a live round.As far as half cock down , I let the hammer down from half cock on a Ruger 3 screw and let the hammer slip from my thumb only 1/4 inch away from the firing pin and BOOM ! Went harmlessly into the ground ( Daddv told me back in 1960 “;son don’t ever point a gun at anybody you don’t need to shoot , loaded or unloaded “ .
