Can you play it now? I thought it was beyond me but I’m honestly getting the hang of it. Still haven’t learned the whole thing though. My method is to learn one piece and get good at it and slowly add more so it’s not overwhelming
@Juuqe3 ай бұрын
@@loganschofield5909 always a great way to do it, remember that spending 20 minutes every day is better than 140 mins in one sitting once a week. consistency is key, and sleep consolidates memory, so you'll often find the next day a lot of what you were learning will feel a little more natural even when you haven't spent any time in between on the guitar.
@loganschofield59093 ай бұрын
@@Juuqe very true. I’ve played on and off for about 7 years now and still barely have any songs down. Just a bunch of chords, some scales, and that’s about it. Just recently got into my guitar again and trying to stay consistent and take my progression seriously. I couldn’t agree with you more about consistency. That is the key and is why I’m progressing so much more now compared to all this time I’ve randomly picked it up and messed around for hours and then just set it back down for weeks

8:10 Note: I do think it's much easier to get muscle memory for the Travis picking style that Colter uses in most of his songs if you stick to playing 654 strings with thumb, 3 with index, 2 with middle, and 1 with ring finger. It's easier to build up dexterity in your ring finger in this style than to be having to move your hand around throughout the song

Hi Tim, I just recently picked up the guitar after barley touching it fir 20 years. I used to play electric, (heavy metal) now that I'm a bit older, and settled down with a family my taste in music has become much milder. I have never finger picked before, and I am slowly learning with your tutorial if the devil wears a suit and tie. I absolutely love your style, and tutorials. I watched you fishing video, and stocking stuffer videos last night, and you seem like a pretty good guy. I was hoping you might post a tutorial of a pretty great guitarist named Shakey Graves, and the song I would like to learn is called Late July. Regardless I will continue to enjoy your tutorials, as I progress. Thanks again Tim. Bobby

Exactly the same here my friend.. picked the electric guitar back up after nearly 15 years, hammering heavy metal and even hard rock just wasn't as enjoyable.. a good friend sent me a video of colter playing black top, then that lead to discovering tyler and Billy strings. I've been in a rabbit hole of country/delta/bluegrass ever since. Loving every minute of the process too.. glad you decided to pick the guitar back up! Also forgot how much it hurt to build up thoughs finger tips to concrete.. 🧐

Because a video like this is for someone who already knows how to play basic chords, if you don’t even know the simplest of chord shapes you have no business whatsoever trying to learn this song and I don’t mean that in a rude way I’m telling you for your own good , that’s what causes people to quit playing cause they get to frustrated because they try to get to advanced to fast

This tutorial is awesome, but I am confused at 10:00 where you say Em, A, Em....but never hit any of the strings fingered in the Em. Is there a reason to finger the Em at all vs leaving everything open?
@TimGuitarLessons4 жыл бұрын
It’s good to fret the chord correctly for purposes of habit, and also in case your picking hand gets a little loose and you hit more of the strings, you want for the notes to be “good ones” that can fill the space rather than those random open strings
