One man, a guitar and a kick drum is all it takes to make radio country look like a dumpster fire. Edit: Glad to see there are so many fans of real country that can relate.
5 жыл бұрын
@@dustindearing1722 so quite a bit different then? The biggest difference between singers being their voices. And lyrics. And if they play an instrument, playing style, tuning and chord choices. So not really the same at all. Other than both use a guitar and kick drum. Alicia Keys is basically a knock off of Bach since they both play the piano.
5 жыл бұрын
@@dustindearing1722 not sure what world calling someone a knock off is considered respect. And therein lies the cause of us getting off on the bad foot. Even if someone says you're a knock off of God himself, knockoff is still an insult. I'll go check that song out.
5 жыл бұрын
@@dustindearing1722 checked out that song and about six others from Shakey. I'm not hearing what you're hearing. So I have to stick with my Billy Joel to Jerry Lee Lewis analogy.

@@dustindearing1722 all is forgiven then. I hadn't heard of Shakey Graves until your comment. Dig the style as well. Reminds me of the school janitor when I was in elementary school, had a weekend gig at the flea market where he played his guitar, harmonica and kick drum. Flat out amazing. The song is actually about Robert Johnson. Father of bluegrass. People like B.B. King would study RoJo because he was single-handedly the best guitar player who lived. He only recorded I believe 3-5 songs and died. Story is he disappeared for a year, came back some kind of string pickin idiot savant. Told people he sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads in Mississippi. There’s a whole movie from the 90’s about him and a documentary from the 2010’s

More delta acoustic blues than country... this is really just a spin on Robert Johnson's ol' Crossroads story... even down to Highway 61 mentioned. Keep in mind, that there are points of overlap with country, blues and bluesgrass... this is one of those times. But to me? This is pure acoustic blues. To you it's 'country'... the secret is... we're both right. I'm not calling Colter a rip off (love this dude's music)... this is his own song, his own style, but it borrows heavily from some VERY old blues. It's all good, I bet Robert Johnson would love this song. But the old crossroads trope in music (And more covers of this song that I can count... Clapton has done a few completely different covers of this classic over the years and decades) all trace back to here. Robert Johnson. kzbin.info/www/bejne/faSlkJZ9mcyDitE

A Million times better than 95 percent of anything else on country radio!!

I’d say better than 100% of it. Show me anything on the radio that’s better. Luke combs is the best they’ll play on FM country radio. And he’s relatively criny pop country. A little less cringy than the rest though

Drew Harrison agreed! I was just trying to be nice allowing the 5 percent! The only thing that I hear on major country radio that is even close is Chris Stapleton. I still Like Colter more!

So dark & stunning. The gorgeous notes that Colter freely & bravely sings around the chords, the depth in every layer including the changing rhythms to each string tuned up another note..."Rev. come quick", this boy could steal my ❤‍🔥
