Can you make a video explaining how the different ratios of the bell crank and coilover mounts will affect the suspension? Ie: how it changes the spring rate, dampening, and suspension travel.

Excellent - real high quality work! I built cantilevered front & rear suspension for my '37 Chevy pick-up, but I really like what you've done with the hydraulics. Did you install something similar in the '39 rod susp? Great to see builders like yourself doing such innovative work - so what's next?
@coltstonecypher2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The 39 had just a basic air bag setup. But it's getting a major overhaul once the Z is finished

ive been wanting to do this for years and years, i have afew questions, how bad is the droop factor of the hydraulics slowly leaking down over time? is that an issue at all? and how do you deal with your wheel alignments changing at every setting?
@sanramondrift4 жыл бұрын
7:17 really nicessssssssss is that you with the ssssss or is that the trunk shocks? 🤣😂

Did you thread in heim joints into both ends of the hydraulic cylinders? Or are the rear bottoms clamped like the front tops are? Nice clamps btw.
@coltstonecypher Жыл бұрын
No. I disassembled the cylinder and welded a threaded sleeve to the top of it. Also the front clamp is just extra stability. There's a flange welded around the cylinder that bolts up to where the coilovers mounts to the strut tower
@ianw38113 жыл бұрын
Do you get any unwanted compressions from the hydraulic cylinders, when hitting bumps at high speed? Is this setup slightly disadvantageous compared to, say a solid metal strut pushing the rocker, rather than a Hydraulic cylinder?
@coltstonecypher3 жыл бұрын
Hydraulic fluid compression is almost non existent, unlike air. The only time you would have a issue is if there was any air in the line, then you would have some movement from the air compressing
@ianw38113 жыл бұрын
@@coltstonecypher Thank you very much for your reply. That does makes sense scientifically, now that I think about it, liquid is almost entirely incompressible unlike gas. Really clever system you've built to get the performance benefits of coil-overs, I really hate airbag lift systems since they seemingly can't be driven hard at a track. Also, beautiful rocker link, and I love how the coilovers are located in such a visible location, similar to when you remove the hood of some racecars/hypercars.

Do you have a video on why you built the hydraulic cantilever system
@coltstonecypher3 жыл бұрын
Na. Just wanted to be able to slam it but still have the coilover feel. And obviously for the looks
@bingbongap55583 жыл бұрын
@@coltstonecypher howcome you chose hydraulics over airbags? Does it pair better with the cantilever?
@coltstonecypher3 жыл бұрын
@@bingbongap5558 hydraulic fluid doesn't compress so all the movement is just in the coilover. If you did this with a airbag, the bag and coilover would be compressing and it would be difficult to tune it properly
