His name is David Tuner. He had spasms in his back. If I recall correctly, he was carried off on a stretcher but was OK. Several D1 players played in this game. North had Adam Greenlee #7 (a QB at IU) and Will Horn #1 (a WR/K at IU). Martinsville had Bob Denton #76 (OL at Mich State). Denton was the one that got ejected from the game.

The guy on the ground was kicked in the back and ribs. He ended up having severe back spasms but was eventually OK. One of the other guys (#31) that got hurt had a couple of cracked ribs. Other notes: Our head coach was actually punched and knocked to the ground in the big pile and another player had his helmet ripped off his head with all 4 snaps to his chinstrap still fastened. His face was bruised pretty badly.

Martinsville had 3 players and their head coach suspended for 3 games the following season. The IHSAA declared no penalties against Columbus North due to the video evidence (this video and another video from atop of the press box) showing no North players leaving the bench - per instructions from our coaching staff.

I'm trying to imagine what the penalties would be had this happened in 2009 as opposed to 1989. My guess is Martinsville would have been hit much harder - as they should have been anyway.

@TimberwolfKent - Might want to check your facts. Warren Central recently had back-to-back Mr Football winners (2005 & 2006). They also had 3 Mr Football winners in 4 years - (in 2003 as well as '05 & '06.) And the other Mr football winner from Martinsville you are forgetting was Izzy Thompson.

When I was in high school, our team had a second consecutive losing season and an adult fan started berating the head coach from the stands. His son, an assistant coach, went up into the stands after him. He played under his dad in high school, and no matter how hard his dad was on him, and I mean really hard, you didn't cut him down in front of him. I mean, hey, that was his father.

the closest thing to a fight occured at a gas station after a game when about 20 or more cars from that town blocked our bus from going anywhere and were throwing shit at us and mooning us and coming up and hitting the bus with bottles and cracked the back door windown on the bus witha soda bottle. we called the cops and they escorted us out of town and 15 players got suspended the next game. plus i think that station got fined for not enforcing loitering on the players that were doing this.

I played in the late 60’s, early 70s, for Bloomington. There was no Bloomington “South” or “North” back then. I didn’t play much, and one reason I didn’t, was because we were so good. The entire time I was in high school we were ranked number 1 in the state rankings, and never lost a game. We hated Martinsville. They went decades without ever even scoring against us. We beat them 84-0 my Junior year. We had the ball 12 times, and we scored 12 times. We played both of these teams every year I was there and never lost to either of them. But Martinsville was always like an irritating red neck bunch of blowhards. We enjoyed stomping the crap out of them. Many years later….I married a girl from Martinsville!

Hah I attend Martinsville and play football. We're arn't trash don't get me wrong. But hell yea that was sweet :) Think we're trash we have about 13 striaght academic decathalon (I cant spell the shit im not in it ha) wins. And over 100 state championships, which makes us the most state champs in Indiana. And we are the only school EVER to have had 2 consecutive Mr Footballs (or whatever) Earl Haniford (who taught my 6th grade science class) and someone else. Thank-you.
