Column chromatography applies the same principles as TLC on a larger scale. In column chromatography, a glass column is filled with a stationary phase (typically silica gel), and the mixture of compounds to be separated is placed on top. Then, a mobile phase (solvent) is passed through the column from top to bottom. As with TLC, the rate at which each compound in the mixture moves down the column depends on its relative attractions to the stationary and mobile phases. aug 26 2023 struggling go get how the eluent dissolvessome or all of the sample then both work their way along thru the silica to varying degrees via an assortment of interactions at the molecular size level. a video that would be most welcome would show blow by blow these attractive forces in action. my thinking is that this could be represented graphiclly. and so far all i find are vid's like this one that are drawn at a very coarse scale. with mostly words to try and tell us what is going on helpful comments most welcome
