If you want a bit more of a detailed look into where everything is kept on board or just fancy being a little nosy and peaking behind some of those closed doors, feel free to check out our Patreon for that vid!

About Us
We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane.
However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on.
We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit

You have an extremely well kept boat for its age. Congrats! I suggest a modification on your waste water system. Instead of letting the water from shower, sinks, etc. go into the bilge, get it directly overboard with a pump, e.g. mounted under the shower pan. You will switch on that pump manually evey time you take a shower. The advantage is that you avoid humidity in the builge. In particular, you want to avoid any water in the engine room bilge. Humidity in the engine room will lead to rust everywhere over time. I speak of 25 y experience. Once I had changed my entire water system accordingly my bilge was dry an corrosion was no longer seen. Good luck and regards from Switzerland. Silvano

A gulper sounds like a bottom feeding prehistoric fish, but its the the thing that sounds like it might pull your toes off under your shower tray . I had a blower in my bilge for airflow , if you do have high rh its one way to cure it

Thanks for the boat tour it's looking great, congratulations. Also good to change the name of the chanel. Just a couple of things, the gas locker does not look as though it is sealed and drained overboard. Hopefully it's better than it looks. Gas on a boat is dangerous and will drain down to the lowest point in the bilges and accumulate there. The light you pointed out on the front of the main mast is the "masthead" light, commonly referred to on a yacht as the steaming light, as you must have this light on when under power, as well as your sidelights ( red, green) and stern light. Although officially called a masthead light, it is clearly not at the masthead and doesn't need to be, but it must show a white light from forward to 22.5 degrees abaft the beam on each side (the same sector as your sidelights), which it looks as though it does. An anchor light must show a white light 360 degrees. If you have one it will be at the top of the mast. Otherwise you can hang a light up in the forward part of the yacht (similar to the black ball). Great to follow your progress. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much! You are right about the gas locker- it is not sealed- it is on our list! However, there is a pipe to outside though which is good and we do switch it off after each use 😊 Yes. We know this about the steaming light- We don't have one at the top so we just use the Steaming light and our stern light- although it is something we need to fix soon! Thanks so much for the suggestions- we really appreciate it 😊

Thanks for your reply, it's good that the gas locker is at least drained overboard. As for an anchor light I use one of these. I first bought a battery powered one from Decathlon, which is really bright, water resistant and lasts about three nights on one set of batteries. (I used to use a paraffin light, but this is much safer). Now I have bought one of these, rechargeable ones. I recommend them. I am also following someone I know who is currently north of Scotland tied up in Fair Isle and I can watch his progress on marinetraffic its great fun, I was wondering if I could find you guys but the only Teulu was last reported in St Lucia in 2015, enjoy your wonderful sailing life. Looking good, BeenZee. When upgrading that old winch, consider splurging on a stainless Andersen- they really are the mutts nuts! on the principle you can never have too much fresh water, consider (long term) rigging a "water collection system" (a big funnel leading to a jerrycan) under the goosenecks, the amount of rainwater pouring off there when the sails are up will astound you! (Discard the first few litres, it'll have salt off the sails in it.) Keep up the good work!

Well done video, keep them coming. Nice to see you on anchor, that 80kilo anchor is NOT overmuch! It is true that weight on the extreme ends will increase the hobbyhorse motion but the difference between 35K and 80K on the bow is not that significant. The difference in holding between 35K and 80K, when your anchor is all that's keeping you off a lee shore in a blow, IS significant! Fair winds.

I have already commented on the main sheet jambing cleat but I also wonder about those very large wheelhouse windows, are you thinking about blinds? Rather exposed in the winter. Lead the hoist lines for the mooring ball forrard of the lower shrouds, the ball ought to be visible over the bow not the side deck! Any idea of the length of chain? You do keep the boat so smart and tidy, well done.
@TeuluTribe
@TeuluTribe 2 жыл бұрын
We looked into blinds but they are too long to fit (even custom ones!) so we are thinking silver backed blackout material that poppers or Velcros on to give a bit more protection 😊 Thanks for the suggestions! We have 60m of chain currently and are going to get about 50m more 😊

I love your boat. I think you've made a great choice for an offshore cruiser. I've been sailing for 46 years. Everything from dinghies to cruisers (we use to have a boat in Queen Anne's Battery) and currently we're racing in the RORC doublehanded offshore series. I'm currently looking for a cruising boat that I can spend extended periods on when I retire, and the deckhouse with the table high enough to sit at whilst looking out is a great feature that I am looking for too. For cruising, the ketch rig gives a lot of options for depowering safely when needed. Slab reefing rather than inboom or in mast reefing would be my preference too, as there is nothing that can really jam or go wrong and it allows for a better sail shape. We have an EFOY fuel cell on the race boat which has been a great addition. We never need to run the engine to charge now. Maybe worth investigating if your energy needs are high. I'm sure you're going to have a great time onboard. Best of luck. I'll be following.

Thanks so much. Oh cool, small world! It was the pilot house that attracted us to Teulu in the first place- we wanted lots of light in 😊 Will look into the EFOY fuel cell system- thanks for the suggestion!

Nice boat and nice couple too. I just don't understand one thing, and that in all seriousness: What sorrows do you need to drown by drinking booze? Or for that matter any sailing channel. I simply do not understand it. You are young, capable and attractive people, supposedly living the dream, and yet you need booze in your life, as do all sailing channels out there apparently. If I ever get a boat, I will be the first 100% alcohol free sailor in the world and boat for sure. I absolutely hate to be around drunk people, which is actually one of the reasons, why I want to leave Denmark: This nation has a very unhealthy drinking culture for sure!

This is a really great video (loving much of your content with your Welsh adventures too) and I can feel like a part of your boating discovery process. Keep it up guys I know it's lots of effort editing etc but it is paying off :D This is fun!

@@bobjary9382 I lived on a canal boat for 6 years until 2022... Only difference being is sailing can get dangerous if not done properly. Well worth considering though... just be safe doing so 🙂🙂

I really love your boat. The space and size and livability seems just great. I also find it interesting how on occassion you use those little phrases that tell me where you are from (larder as an example). Keep your spirits up and keep those videos comming.

I am sure I missed it, but wasn’t your channel called Planet Becka? I hope “ Teulu Tribe” works out. Doesn’t’ that basically mean tribe tribe? (Sailing Saoirse changed their name away from their boat to their own because many people struggled to recall the name, spell or pronounce it. Though, personally, I don’t think this one is too tricky, despite the Welsh pronunciation potentially catching people out. Another possibility might have been “Becka and Zach do the planet”. Too long winded? ;))
@TeuluTribe
@TeuluTribe 2 жыл бұрын
It was called Planet Becka 😊 Teulu is more like family- so I guess family tribe- we shall see and if down the line we realise its too hard to say we can always change it! 😊

I’m headed south in 33 days to buy my first sailboat. I’m currently in BC Canada. I’m very excited and I wanted to thank you. The information you provide is invaluable. I would be doing it anyway, but watching your videos is helping to reduce the stress associated with any large life change. (Did I mention I retired last week. 😆 ) Keep it up. Maybe I’ll see you around. 😎

We are so glad Paul! Haha yep, and it ebs and flows! Sometimes the boat is spotless but after boat jobs, it definitley doesn't look like that. Lovely thing about a boat though is how quick it is to put everything back in its place. We love it 😊 Yes will do an upgraded tour in the future. Have a great week too!
