Short clip of our Watson 31.5 motorsailer going a lot faster than they have any rights to. Enjoy!

Great video Andrew , Anne is seriously travelling !! We’ve never managed to squeeze more than about 6 knots out of Feels Good , 31.5’ . Next lift out, I think we need to make your deadwood and rudder mods . 👍

Hi Tim, it's not just the rudder & deadwood, we also carry twice the sail area of the standard model. The modifications, however, prevent rudder stall, minimize weatherhelm, provide control in winds over 15 kt and, consequently, permit a much larger sail area. Between her beam, displacement and a fairly hard bilge, the CW hull is remarkably stable; in the video, the wind speed is at up to 30 kts! Great to hear from you again. Best, A.

Over ground measured by gps or through the water measured by the log?
@LaminarFlow89617 күн бұрын
Through the water, of course. Through the water for the sexy bits, over ground for navigation. Otherwise I could post that we've done 14 kts and 13 kts in the Chenal du Four and around Cap de la Hague!

Yes, I also once calibrated my log to over-read by 100% to impress a potential buyer. I believe Annie Edson Taylor reached 60 knots in a similar craft to a Colvic Watson, a barrel, whilst going over Niagara Falls.

@@atakd The admission that you are apparently prone to fraud, does not infer that others are as well. My log was calibrated in a Dutch canal, averaging both directions and comparing it to the km markers ashore; I'm a bit fussy that way. Point to point and on passage we have averaged 6.8 kt over 94 miles and 6.4 kts over 270 and 250 miles, under sail and on a regular basis. I've done some 70.000 ocean racing and cruising miles, designed , built and modified yachts. Just perhaps I know what I'm saying and so could you, by simply observing the wake of the boat in my video. Relative speeds of 1.6 are perfectly achievable for a boat with a relatively high CP and a suitably flat run, even a relatively heavy one.

8-8.5 knots, that is indeed quite respektable for any 32 foot sailing vessel.
