Thank you for your service. I am an Australian both grandfather’s fought in WW2 one was a medic in the pacific the other a POW in Changi and worked on the Burma railway. Both came home both lost their youth both lost their innocent look at life and one lost himself and came home a shell of anger illness and when he finally passed it was a blessing because even though he had returned the Japanese had taken his life a long time before. I protect the streets that’s my battle ground and I do it for the love of my family and brothers and sisters in blue. It doesn’t matter the patch you wear we all walk the line and we all know that one day it may be our day to make the ultimate sacrifice. You made it home and your family have you WE all have you. I am a world away from you and will never know you but I am so very happy you stepped up you gave you sacrificed and you are back home. 🙏

Thank you all for the selfless acts you perform daily. Your families are so proud of you. You may never truly understand the impact you make on the patients and their families, but you are the one thing in their life they will never forget about.

Very well done Dust Off video, both narration and images. I know the danger Dust Off crews commit themselves to unselfishly risk their own lives to save the lives of others, under and weather and unsecure conditions. I was Huey helicopter crew chief with the 57th Medical Detachment in Vietnam in 1972-1973, the med-evac missions are the same in principal but your choppers and equipment are light years ahead of our Huey UH-1H , but this birds performed the job well, I loved that bird. You might find something of interest in watching --KZbin: Dust Off Crew Chief in Vietnam 1972-1973. I was 19 years old in Vietnam, I am now 71 years old now, the proudest thing that I have done in my life is having been one of the four crew members of a Dust Off helicopter.

Its these people, the people who do this without asking questions, go without asking why, do what they do because they love what they do, they train hard, they study - they are good, and when they do their last job, they get ready to go out again and again and again, its these people that are the true hero`s, not what you see on film, movies where they get 50 takes to get a shot good for film,,,,these people get one shot and they have to get it right - every time or people die,,,its these people I would gladly have a beer with, help in times of need, help their famalies, no questions asked. Its these people that get my full respect.

Can anyone explain to me why these Medevac Black Hawks have no defensive weapons- i.e door gunners? Or are they supported by attack helicopters? Thanks.
@troygarza35084 жыл бұрын
Eric M We are Supported by Apaches or Blackhawks. Sometimes we launch without an escort. That’s the way it was when I was a Crewchief on Medevac Blackhawks in Afghanistan 2000 to 2003. With the 1042nd Medevac Co. attached to the 82nd Airborne. Are Blackhawks cannot be armed because of the Geneva Convention. We cannot have mounted weapons on the aircraft. But we all carry M4 and 9 mm pistol. If we have to we can fire out our doors to protect ourselves and the aircraft. When we land one responsibilities of the crew chief is to cover the flight medic protect the crew and the aircraft while we’re on the ground.

I’m trying to become a medevac pilot. Pilot is generally an officer position and you’ll need a college degree to have a chance at it. For flight medics I’d imagine you’d need some emt experience or you can start as a combat medic and eventually transition into a flight medic

@sjrlax10/BlueAvenue22 there are amazing jobs for both officers and enlisted personnel in the armed services. All are of great important regardless of rank position or location. As far as "action" both tracks have excitement, hardships and difficult tasks to overcome. It all comes down to what you want to do. I agree with getting your education and working to improve yourself. Regardless of your decision, I'm proud of you both of you and thank you for your decision to serve our country.

Whoever was the Medivac Bird in charge of of the Khowst province of Afghanistan in 2008, you take too DAMN long! As a line-medic, every time I called in a 9-line, you guys didn't show up for over an hour!
@troygarza35084 жыл бұрын
mercturq FYI The nine line doesn’t go directly to the medevac unit it goes through higher up and then they decide if we’re going to launch or not. If it’s a go they send the 9 line to the Medevac unit. Then we get the information and launch . When I was in Kandahar doing medevac missions in 2002-2003. When we got the nine line we would be airborne within 7 to 12 minutes or less. Any Delay in response time is because of the delay it took for higher up to get it to the line medevac units to launch. Our response time to the point of injury was 30 minutes or less once we got the nine line. Thank you for your service.

is it strange that a major is riding with the medevac team?
@LueVandacar9 жыл бұрын
Justin Knapp Yeah they have been trying to push nurses on aircraft when I started in 2007. Now that we have the Paramedic and CC courses, it seems they are backing away from it. The only reason they came along was to help with meds. My nurses that came with me mostly were scared to fly and would stay buckled up during the entire flight.

@TheCmb894 жыл бұрын
To do what? Be a smartass officer? If you are talking about flight medics or crew chiefs, this is incorrect. And if you are talking about pilots, then yes but no. They are always warrant officers. Only brass in a medevac is in the back seats or the stretcher.
