loved playing combat, but you're right--it is only fun on two-player....love those salmon-colored and lime-colored jets!!!

The game play and graphics are simple but they did a great job getting as much as they could out of what they had to work with. Despite its simplicity, it is still quality.

I Love this game, definitely one of my fav 2600 games. I Remember sitting in the basement playing my Atari on an old barely working TV because my parents were worried it would mess up the main TV.... lol. Great review as always. 5/5

A friend of mine got a 2600 way back when (around 1979). We had a blast playing Combat! About a year later I bought one of my own. Again, a roommate and I wasted lots of fun hours on this console. I sold it a few years later. Wish I never had. But I saw one on eBay a couple years ago, bid on it and won. 100+ carts; works great! It's great having such an important piece of video game history.

You mean World of Tanks and World of Warplanes?

I'd say Outlaw was more like COD, Combat was the first Battlefield.

The dual bi-planes was our favorite because your left could hit their right. You didn't have to be as precise.

Hey.. the Atari 2600 was launched in August 1977 (along with Combat) not in October 1977. This has long been debated until someone was selling a gatefold copy of Combat that included a Sears receipt from 08-77 on eBay. However.. the remaining 8 or so “launch games” did indeed release October 1977.

i actually played this game for the first time last night with a friend. The controls take some getting used to but overall it was very fun to play.

The 3 biplanes vs 1 bomber mode is more for a novice to take on a pro- much like how some modern shooters give you the option to have multiple opponents against a single player. Being the bomber is just saying "I'm THAT hardcore!"

I loved trapping my friend in the corner and shooting him over and over Then I'd rage when he did it to me...lol

Another classic. I wonder if my dad had gotten this packaged with the Atari console? I don't remember when he actually bought the Atari. One strange thing though. I really don't remember the planes in this game. Maybe I was too young to figure out the different modes. Although I do remember the being invisible mode, lol. Damn this was truly groundbreaking for my childhood.

Geez guy, they're not 'missiles', they're bullets. And its not 'rapid firing missiles' its a machine gun! Anyway, I played this game so much that I found out that if you make the tanks buttf*ck and then turn, the tanks go crazy, spinning in circles until they reach the edge of the screen. Early software 'bug'!
