This is the direction BJJ needed to go in, in order to avoid losing it's real life self defense application. Striking is just another weapon, it's not the antithesis of grappling, and seeing BJJ guys embracing it like this is beyond cool. I can't wait to see where this goes. Edit. Palm strikes with a gi would be interesting too.

@JonSmex6 жыл бұрын
I don´t get it also...if you want to incorporate strikes then why not doing or watching MMA. People do grappling or watch grappling because of grappling....sure a lot of them enjoy MMA as well but that combat grappling is in fact a devolution....I mean there is Shootfighting which allows Stand up strinking and no striking when on the ground only grappling...also restrictive but makes a liitle more sense than NO striking Standup but palm strikes on the ground....and why even palmstrikes...get mma gloves and punch...anyhow it doesn´t make sense either way

JonSmex They don't want the fights to be all about strikes. It's Jiu-Jitsu with the plus of strikes. Many Jiu-Jitsu holds leave the grappler open to strikes. This makes the whole sport more challenging. Balancing between grapples and defense, attacks and slips.

Agreed brings more of a real world element to it. Like just jujitsu as a sport is cool, but I feel this is more what you would see in the streets. Jujitsu is good if you can transition to it when it’s needed it. First focus is the takedown then controlling the person so you can smack them up. But is real life I don’t want to fight from the floor if you don’t have too. If anything you should do everything you can to not go to the floor. I learned this when I wrestled. It’s a great sport, but when I actually had to use it for the most part it’s would be against multiple attacker so it has be about throwing everyone then doing double or singles legs unless you can go into a lift so you can do some really damage.

With strikes, ground and pound is the consequence of pulling guard, so without strikes the consequence of pulling guard should at least be free points for the opponent to give them a lead.

I hope this remains the real future of jujitsu there too many gimmicks in modern jujitsu which strikes punish immediately. if a slap can reliably stop a technique it should not be taught in the art. The entire origin of tenth planet - a dedicated rubber-guard no-gi jujitsu was meant to resolve the problem of ground and pound. This is the tenth-planet I want to see evolve. I feel the death squad has put things into a bad direction. Jujitsu should remain the truth of self defense. I really really dislike points, it’s made jujitsu accessible that’s great, but it’s taught bad habits for combat as removing strikes entirely has. All the old Gracie demos and the ufc that made jujitsu famous were vale tudo, it’s right we get back to that somehow. May it be the slap heard round the martial arts world.

Palm strikes are legal but no slams!? You can do that in freestyle, come on!

Thunder Hammer I know ever single fucken time go to a bjj tournament I’ll do a takedown or trip if slam and the other guy wins or they take a point like wtf

Slams should be allowed so we can see how it changes the game
@MegaHeelhook5 жыл бұрын
I agree, but if they allowed slams and throws, jiu jitsu wizards with their funky guard pulls would get obliterated against a wrestler, it's falsifying the fact with that stupid rule of no slams that somehow the jiu jitsu fighter gets the advantage even though he gets thrown across the room, ridiculous.
@yaboi-km2qn4 жыл бұрын
Slams should be allowed cause they are legitimate. Pulling guard really pisses me off cause if your whole martial art is ground fighting and you can’t take a guy down then it’s useless. And why would you just walk into a guy’s guard if that’s where he wants to be? I’d just round backwards in circles and there’d be nothing he could do but butt scoot like a dog with an itchy arse whole.
@vitorfogaco65594 жыл бұрын
slams should be very clearly allowed and a huge part of the game, as it is now, even in mma it's kind of a gray area and it's kind of a unspoken rule to not really do them , so no one trains for them and everyone just kinda ignores that they're there. that's why Rose got her cute lil head hurt that shit broke my heart so bad.

Man, I really hated the "slap fighting" in the beginning, then it totally made sense by the end. I'm looking forward to trying this with some of my training partners.

Very cool to be in on the first one of these. This was badass; like the UFC for nerds. The striking may become super dangerous, you could see it evolving through the matches.

Thanks Eddie. After watching this I got the ufc fight pass specifically so I can watch all of the EBI's and CJJ.

joey kimble Yep, I completely agree... either of the Diaz’s I feel would do well at this - plus it would be good to see Nick Diaz compete again since it’s unlikely he’ll fight again in MMA

I just don’t get it.... open palm strikes are pretty ineffective on the ground. Maybe if they could use knees and elbows on the ground it would be a better sport.
