I have to say this: Your content is amazing. I first found your Soviet Armor Doctrine “””podcast””” which really piqued my interest. Each of these videos provides such a depth of knowledge and drama that it’s like a short film, in a way. With each play being laid out on the tactical and operational level I find it so interesting to see how it all plays out

I'm hella glad this got recommended to me! I love Megalon Jones videos and yours are top notch as well! The way you explained your tactics was really great. It was interesting seeing both sides on how you where countering his every move until Megalon did an unexpected last rush. The editing style with the narration puts the cherry on top along with the music to hype certain parts. It all added to the epicenes of the video :D

But late to the party but hope you'll see it anyways: Wow, that was amazing, had me glued to the screen the entire way though! This is easily one of the best combat mission videos I've ever seen, especially the ability to tell a story/create a narrative and the pacing were top notch, I felt that I knew exactly what each unit were doing all the way down to the squad level, and that makes me as a watcher feel way more invested in the battle, and you did it without making it feel overburdening or overwhelming, quite a feat! I can't wait to see more of your content, in my opinion this video was *at least* on the level of the combat mission greats like Usually Hapless, Double Vision, and JW, and it's your first video! Incredible! The only piece of advice I could give is to not fall into the trap of feeling like you have to go bigger and bigger for each battle, there are many who have done so and has as a result become overwhelmed by the workload *and* lost the ability to focus in on the units to tell stories as the scope became larger and larger, and I feel that said storytelling was the best part of this video! Thank you for making and sharing this, a subscription and like has never been more well earned!
@FreeWhisky2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for leaving such a thoughtful reply. Yes, in my next video (rematch between Megalon and myself) I am indeed focussing on making sure that altough the battle is larger scale one, the narrative remains sufficiëntly 'small' and easy to follow. Your advice seems to confirm that that's the right way to go!
@sproge21422 жыл бұрын
@@FreeWhisky hey man, it's the least I can do considering the work required to make these! Good to hear about the next video! I can absolutely understand the urge to go bigger, as content creators people naturally want to become "better" over time by innovating and improving their videos, doing the same thing again and again might feel bad, and going bigger feels like an obvious solution at first but it has its own problems as mentioned. When people realize that, and they start to realize that there's nothing wrong with doing the same thing over and over again because people like what you do so you dont actually *need* to chance anything, it might already be too late and the content creator has burnt himself out trying to chase the proverbial rabbit. That's why I try to spread the message to people that it's OK to keep doing what you do best, and that people would not be here if they didn't like what you were already doing. People just want more of what you're already doing, and you can do it for a very very long time before you need to worry about it getting "stale"! The worst thing that could happen in the audience eyes is that you burn out and stop making more videos! 😂

Excellent video, this AAR was very well edited and well done. The strategy as well was very well thought out, I honestly don't know how I would push if I was on the other side of this engagement. Also amazing editing and timing on the infantry pushing out from the american artillery, that could've been decisive if they got caught in the barrage
@FreeWhisky2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's certainly a challenging scenario for the attacker. And yes, interresting to think about what would have happened if the infantry had been caught by the artillery... The survivors would have had to go straight to the foxholes behind the landmines I suppose, leaving my AT units in the treeline exposed...

I just finished this one as the Americans vs the AI. It is a fun scenario. I managed a major victory. My attack out of the town was on the east side of the central woods. I focused entirely on touching the phase lines which meant clearing any danger areas and then screening them off. I did not go over the hills but along the bases of the hills. It worked very well against the AI but against a human, I think the US needs at least another platoon of mech infantry. Very good scenario, IMO. And good video!

Regarding the BMP you lost in the opening stages, when it comes to deploying mechanized infantry, if you're advancing it's better to deploy BEFORE entering an unknown position than it is to drive INTO the unknown position and then deploy. It allows your dismounts an opportunity to screen the IFV
@RomanHistoryFan476AD Жыл бұрын
Finny enough Soviet doctrine does not support this practice, I assume you know this and watched Free whiskey's videos on Soviet doctrine. The only time Infantry disembark is when enemy is contacted or in defensive positions.

Great video,I learned a lot from this and your other videos of CM.I noticed the missile drops to the ground problem happens 13:18.It happened frequently in my game too. Soviet missile like AT-3,AT-5 on BMPs and AT-7,AT-4 carried by infantry they all have this problem.Does this often happens to you?Is it a bug or a feature that I don't know?
@FreeWhisky Жыл бұрын
I can't be sure but especially in those days, TOWs had a larger failure rate than now. For example, I've read posts on forums from people who were dragon gunners back then that the cables would sometimes snap after launching, making the missile crash. I think it's unrealistic to have a 100% succes rate so having a few failures is fine by me.
@kkuy6787 Жыл бұрын
@@FreeWhisky Thanks for reply.For me,it is extremely annoying especially playing soviet campaign since ATGM is quite an important element for Mechanized infantry regiment.Soviet ATGMs no matter on BMPs or infantry deploy,they drop straight down when they launched like they lost all power and control.I don't think it's realistic situation. Over 90% fail rate is too high for me.:(
