Combat Rescue Officer (CRO) #1- Col Vincent Savino

Combat Rescue Officer, or CRO, for short, is a relatively young career field. From 1966, when the first Pararescuemen donned their distinctive maroon berets and bloused their boots, Pararescue was an entirely enlisted career field. However, that all that changed through the most uncertain and improbable series of events. When the dust settled, there stood Col Vincent Savino- CRO #1.
This one is truly one for the ages- Col Savino laid the foundations for what Combat Rescue Officers are today. Take a bit and hear about the early days of Rescue, special tactics, and the Air Force Special Operations world.

This was one of the most informative interviews on a big part of Pararescue history in developing our officer core. I was lucky to have Vinny and Terry Johnson as my first two team officers while serving in STS before they became CROs. Pararescue could not have picked two better officers they were both amazing leaders. What I learned from this podcast was what happened behind the scenes and the original CRO maker Chief Miller. I hope you bring him on for an interview soon...
