The quality of acting, the writing into screenplays and production was almost always beyond just excellent. The armchair commentaries about a moments continuity lapse, a military procedure or the use of MGM backlot scenery ( did the commentators note the footage of actual French buildings from series 4? ) have no idea how well this serial was engineered over its years.
