This episode was so funny and the German actors performances were so good in this episode, especially Sasha Harden who played Capt Gemmerman, his acting was awesome! I love Lt Hanley, his performance is always so good and clever! And, of course, Braddock was so good and funny! I enjoyed watching this episode so much! Thank you so much for these episodes!

Shecky Greene is an absolute hoot! When he transforms from private to colonel... what a show! Keenen Wynn played it perfectly too.
I met and interviewed Walter Koening in 1995. Incredible to see him here, 33 years earlier, and not even in the end credits whatsoever. Four years later he was on Star Trek. 6:40 to 7:35

One of my favorite t.v. Shows as a kid. Vic Morrow was from the Bronx, New York City as was I. As a kid In elementary school l had a substitute teacher named Mr. Marvin who was actor Lee Marvin’s brother. RIP.

I remember as a youngster every night at 8pm me and my gramps would watch combat.he would always tell me in a round about way that it was the next best truth to war.all the actors in combat I thank dearly I still watch it today,I still remember the times me and my gramps had together one of my earliest lessons in life.may now the USA needs to watch and remember.

+Stephen Johnson Unrealistic is the right word. I used to watch Combat! in Spanish while I was growing up in Argentina and somehow it always came to me that the American soldiers were smart and Germans were dumb. Was it part of a propaganda stint?

It’s funny. Growing up this was my brothers favorite tv show. And I secretly loved it too. I had crushes on both Rick Jason and Vic morrow. I loved watching it. He thought I hated the show but I didn’t. My brother served in the army in viet-nam. And my dad served in the Navy in wwII. And my mom worked for the uso. My only serving of the military was I dated Air Force officers. So did my mom until she met my dad. But we all thought this show was great!

Oh, thanks so much for posting this! It's been years since I watched this show and I'm trying to catch up. It's people like you that keep this series alive. More please? I've read many times that it was a shame when Shecky Greene left the show, and I see what they mean. Loved him and RJ in the opening scene and BTW, RJ in that scene, wow! His smooth voice, sunny smile, and perfect timing were so well done, he oozed unspoken menace, esp while skinning bits off a pencil with a sharp bayonet.

"The Prisoner" was the first of the annual Combat! 'Christmas' episodes (it aired on 12/25/62). Typically, they were off-beat in nature, and were strong on comedy. Next, watch for 1963's "The Party," which aired on Christmas Eve.

Do Colone's grow on trees LOL. private Braddock makes such a cute Colonel taking advantage of Krauts. Loads of American GIs had a good sense of humour during WWII this included mostly Privates like this guy LOL. Hello from India.

The German Colonel Metz was on a great Hogan's Heroes episode. He was a GESTAPO agent. They tried to hide gold bars at Stalag 13. Hogan and his gang traded them for bricks dipped in gold paint. The episode was The Gold Rush.

Shecky was a famous stand-up comedian who took this job as a lark; he then said that working one hour in Vegas paid more than an entire month of doing Combat, so he left. the show Too bad because he was the perfect comic relief and really added something .

It took the Americans roughly one year to get from Normandy to what was then Czechoslovakia. This show was on for five years and they never got out of France. I liked Colonel Clyde. I've served under commanders like that. They kept us on our toes. Patton would have gotten after him for not wearing a helmet, though--at least the movie Patton would have.

Saw Shecky Green in a theater in the round on Long Island late 70’s. He was terrific. We were near Roosevelt raceway. He was big time gambler. Said someone open door so I can smell the horse crap

I'm surprised Shecky Green's character, Braddock, didn't understand the Germans. He said, "farshtaste" which is Yiddish for "do you understand". Yiddish is about 90% German. I assume Greene is Jewish, most of that generation's comedians were. (Vic Morrow and Rick Jason were also Jewish).
