Watched it every week without fail. Some people said it wouldn't last a year, no romance (I mean the developing deeply meaningful inter-personal relationship lol) and no comedy. I just stumbled across the first one and forgot how well they were done even for 50 (50!!! how'd I get so old!) years ago. The acted emotions are very 60's but it's still an interesting watch. Everywhere in most of my life the Greatest Generation loomed large. I wonder how popular this was with Vets? Yup T.V. paradise; Combat! and Gilligans Island.

Oscar Jordan - I agree with you here on this, I'm sort of ambivalent about the use of color in these episodes.
@garygates810110 жыл бұрын
ambivalent ????????
@videomaniac10810 жыл бұрын
Gary Gates I'm sorry, ambivalent: having mixed or contradictory ideas or feelings about someone or something. I do like seeing people and things in the scenery in their natural colors, but the color can distract a viewer from the subtle cinematographic techniques, such as shadows and lighting, that a creative director can employ to emphasize character or emotion. Sometimes these subtle expressions can contribute a lot in the portrayal of a character or the mood of a scene. The stark harshness of war seems to lend itself well to a B&W expression. A good example might be the colorized version of "Casablanca" versus the original B&W version. Even though the colorized version is very good, IMHO there is something lost in comparison to the B&W version. Some professional photographers prefer to use B&W film for certain types of photo shoots, perhaps for similar reasons.
@garygates810110 жыл бұрын
James Nesta Oh OK I get it, actually I knew what ambivalent meant but when I read your comment I had just smoked a bowl and kind a had a brain fart and it took me a couple minutes to catch up. 420

Going to 'color' from 'black and white' was a problem for the producers in that they could no longer use 'stock footage' to augment the story line. I don't think they had a choice, however, since, at that time, all the networks were switching to color programming. But it would have been better if they had left 'Combat' in black and white. They could have said it made the show more authentic and at least then, they could still use the real footage from WW2.
