Actually the striking aspect is based mostly on boxing. The guy considered the founder, Anatoly Kharlampiyev, was very involved in boxing and wrestling. He added judo later in his life.

Every body says boxing is limited but its the best footwork and timing sport in the world. No gloves and one punch its over. High kicks are over rated unless your unbelievable fast and sharp with it. The gi makes it more street fighting and and body says boxing is shite needs to spar with a high level pro. Your head is coming off there judge of range, distance and timing is second to none. A pro boxer on the street is a unbelievable force end of....

My father put me in combat sambo my whole life and it’s a very effective sport, when I got to Highschool they only offered wrestling but it was very easy compared to my experience with sambo you don’t even have to worry about being punched so it’s kind of a joke. I went all American and I’m Ukrainian haha.

Just to clarify things, the main tactic of Sambo was to break legs, most of the most powerful grappling techniques are based on this, as it was used with the objective of taking down an enemy, but in war, helping an ally, with a broken leg, it required at least two soldiers to take him to medical assistance, so it was a way to get rid of 3 people instead of 1, let's say that in the standard more sporting techniques are used than simply breaking your opponent's leg.

Kozmikōcēlōtl That was mostly Boxing meets wrestling. Pankration is older but a lot of knowledge about ground game dates back to Mallayudha which is older than Judo and had all the things BJJ guys do. Bjj itself came from Judo and they got inspired Chinese which in return for inspired from India. For example Kung Fu came from Klaraipayattu. Muay Thai comes from Musti Yuddha. Mallayudha = Ground Game Mustiyudha= Striking Game. Both from India. Concept of MMA style can be found in various cultures nowadays it's just about marketing it. I could literally just rename submission or catch wrestling school to Mallayudha class and it's the same thing or rename muay Thai/ kickboxing to Mustiyudha

I did it at the Lithuanian Police academy, but totally different from the sports/competition version. Fake weapons, large number of joint locks before throws and finished from standing position of laying down opponent. It's like Japanese Jujitsu but with the name "Combat SAMBO" instead of JJJ (without rituals and perfection of the form). Same as kzbin.info/www/bejne/moDVe6WwfZqhi7s but with realistic strikes (and fake weapons), wrestling stands, and disregard for the beauty of shape 😂
