Great good quality video, thanks for uploading. The only 1 nitpick thing I have to say is that I like to watch these videos at 1/2 or 1/4 speed to watch for some of the hard to miss details on guards and strikes at full speed and the camera angles seem to change the moment someone starts to step into an attack a few times. It would be nice if the editing was done in such a way that camera angles would change in idle positions. Again this is a nitpicky thing but something I wanted to mention. As far as the fighters, I really enjoy blood and iron's videos normally and enjoy their style generally. Some of that shines here and really enjoyed watching.

Just a personal opinion, but I think it'd be neat if we got slow motion replays during the breaks. There are a lot of points where the judges confer or they're breaking to determine the point, a slo-mo recap (possibly with indicators for the strikes) could go a long way to helping understand and appreciate what just happened.

The Game of Thrones 'swordsmen' are really slow compared to the best HEMA longsword fighters. Most of the time they look like they're pretending to lug around a huge log of wood, when a proper longsword doesn't weigh more than 1-2kg(2-4lbs).

nielztoy01 not sure if its traditional but it's not just for show either. These guys have real steel weapons, if the referee needs to jump in between the 2 for whatever reason the last thing you want is for the unarmoured guy getting smashed with one. The stick is there to help break up the opponents should they need it.

Something I notice, and this could just be me not used to watching Longsword combat, but it seems like a lot of the fighters are very...hesitant, if that makes sense? Like, they are being more cautious then I would have thought with it being the final round of a Tournament.
@Kiwanja7 жыл бұрын
It's the point of longsword fighting. You're supposed to injure the opponent while staying uninjured yourself. That's why they award no points for double hits, and there's so much focus on if they parried the counter. It's one of the reasons why it will not turn into the fancy tag that olympic fencing has become.
@BrianDG10016 жыл бұрын
sapherno11 yeah, like they fight only to injure the oponents, not to kill, I know it's a sports but fencing are more intense for me. Maybe because it's still new/young so they need to add/change some rules and equipments. But it's still fun to watch, like your watching a sumo fight its old sport but still a lot of fans.

Not very spectator friendly, much the same as fencing. They're covered in so much safety gear they attack without worry of pain. I'd rather face and collar bone protection and hand protection. One 10-50second real fight with bruises and a righteous end. I'm not saying Combat Con should do this, more so that doing the same as fencing with this point system isn't going to bring in much new interest, because this is pretty much fencing with long swords. I kept skipping past the constant judging interruptions and didn't care who won cause they both just killed each other (double hit) round after round.
@e_wa.n50362 жыл бұрын
no points for double hits. Its difficult to see whats actually happening but i can assure you that alot of blows which seemed to have landed with 'catastrophic' consequence was a blocked blow with one contestant's blow being 'lethal'. Emphasis is put on the requirement to block and parry a blow, and whether an attack had content behind it. Fact is most of the action happens far too quick to see on camera and would probably be much more ingaging in real life
