Thank you for the video. I love abandoned buildings and ruins. Something haunting about them and i see you are local to me. Keep up the good work

Absolutely Michael, there are hundreds in our region, especially in Weardale, there's a whole series of 'abandoned places' videos here: kzbin.infoplaylists made using my drone, thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

My family were tenant farmers there for 90 years but had to leave in the 1920s due to the death of the head of the household. It looks as if it's gone completely downhill since then. I have a photo of the house in 1906 with the Lowery brothers and their sister pictured with a horse and cart in front of the house.

Hi Sara, That's fantastic! Is there any chance I could get a copy of your picture emailed? I would use it for the thumbnail, or even remake the video if you'd like to give me some more information on it's history. Plumberjohnis@gmail.com Thank you for watching and leaving a comment,

Sad to see such an incredible set of old buildings slowly going to ruin, I bet the place has some wonderful stories & history attached to it too. Some lovely stone in those buildings too - I'm sure they'll eventually be repurposed into something else eventually. Great vid as always John, please do keep posting them up!

Thanks a lot for watching and leaving a message. If you scroll down you'll see a message from Sara who is descended from folks who lived there.

Very good video. I know that area well. Didn't know about the derelict farm. You did well to find that. There's a wood there been felled now
@assessorjohn Жыл бұрын
Thanks Neil, I didn’t know about it either, it was more of a lucky discovery during an earlier flight.

I’m sure I’ve walked by as footpath close to it. Sad to look at from any angle and when I see these buildings i always wonder what is their story, why they were abandoned initially and how come nobody has developed the site? There are many of these scattered across our countryside, real shame imo.
@assessorjohn Жыл бұрын
Yes there's a footpath right by the main house,. It's a huge shame to see it in such a state, I seem to recall being told about a family dispute preventing its continued use.

Great flight and a very interesting ruin 👍

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. It was one of those lucky finds due to a previous flight in the area.

I used to help the Armstrong brothers who were tenant farmers at Gold hill, I believe they kept livestock here too and they also owned a farm called Brass Castle Coalburns near Greenside where I was brought up, so sad to see it like this.

Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. I saw the gun turret and it's in a previous video where I got into a panic when I found the wind against me for the return flight, that's here studio.kzbin.infoBld2TgrteAs/edit if you'd like to see it.

You mean the look out post,used to be one at the Grove as well but during reclamation the council said it culd be bulldozed. In the bottom you've also got lime kilns and i don't know if anything remains now but there used to be wooden water races down to the left as you climb out to Mugglesbyres.

It's such a shame about that place, went to look at it a few weeks ago, but there was a vehicle outside, no idea what they were doing. I'm gonna have to do a video on this one.

I was speaking to a local farmer who was telling me there's a bit of a family squabble going on over it, you're right though, huge shame.

@@assessorjohn You know, you could be right, that could be a healeyfield shaft.

@@assessorjohn checked the maps, only a spring showing, but that's further out, could still be a shaft, I'll have to investigate. Also, 4:11, there is a brick building that looks very mine like.

Hi Tanya, I can't be much help I'm afraid. The abandoned buildings I feature, I look up on Google Earth. This place is difficult to reach - copy/paste 54.836984 -1.9094405 into Google Earth for the location.
