@@AllenHart999 a fully skilled and experienced tradesman deserves good pay. We are living in a climate of high inflation. I have GREAT reluctance to work with any company thats just factoring out work ( middle men ). I have skills, intelligence, a phone and a degree of charm. Don't need any middle man.

£400 for a boiler swap???…. Makes me sick when these kind of companies ring me up trying to sign me up!…. What makes them think that I would be prepared to slog my guts out, so they can benefit from all my experience/qualifications, investments in my tools & training (not to mention insurances) just so I can put food on the table of some office bod that wouldn’t know what a hard days work was if it kicked them in the nads!! All for £320 after tax…. I think NOT!

The industry has been in a race to get to the bottom for about a decade now; unfortunately I think we have now reached it. These companies devalue the industry. With other national companies bragging about their “20 minute boiler service” it’s time there was a massive shake up, as the people who want to do things correctly are being priced out of the market.

very low rate charged. I am shocked. £400 for straight swap boiler, consumable materials including copper pipe and fittings,especially gas pipe update included,update new condensation pipe very often you need, new flue hole drill, magnetic clean, magnetic filter, chimecals, update wireless control, disposal boiler? if £400 just for labour only, it is still huge job to do. think about boiler, update gas pipe, update condensation pipe & proper insulation, drill flue hole, install control, chemical flush, commissioning.

These middle men are a blight on our industry. Lowering the standards, whilst sitting in an office doing a bit of admin. Bg offer £22.50 for a service to a contractor which is a shocking mess.

I'm having some issues with my Viessman 050w. Mostly around dirt in the system despite having a magnaclean fitted. I see your adding inhibitor. The Viessman tech line told me they didn't recommend using it. But i think my system definitely needs it. Will it damage the internals of the boiler if added?

You don't take your car to a garage to change the engine and expect the work and testing to make sure everything works to legal regulations and requirements to cost £400 including materials do you? So why would anyone think replacing a boiler you use more than your car, everyday for basic hot water should cost so little? The industry needs to start paying engineers a proper rate of pay which customers should expect for the work they do, which will then force out all the cowboys who undercharge, are not properly trained or even qualified, are not registered with Gas Safe and definitely not insured - out of the industry.

@@AllenHart999 Very true BG are BG - you pay for the brand name haha. Those of us proper engineers know we are always 100% cheaper than BG but these installation companies who then steal jobs by promising to beat like for like components quotes, when independent engineers are already cheaper than they are, gives the customers the impression there is more savings to be made but the installation companies can do this because their pay rates to the engineer is less than they actually charge the customer to supply an approved engineer - it's quite unfair practices.

People complaining £400 is a bad days work? It will all depend on each person's overheads! £400 a day isn't bad if it fills in the diary... I think you would be stupid to say no of you don't have much work on... I understand there point, it's obviously not for them, but a one man band who hasn't much work on over the summer months and this fills the diary then fair play to them..

Very helpful video, I've been considering using Heatable to replace my dying Ideal Isar HE35 with a Vitodens 050 (having watched your previous videos on the 050 as well as your interview with Heatable). Something feels a bit "wrong" about using Heatable vs going directly to a local installer but from a customer perspective I like the idea of it being fixed price so I can't end up in a situation where a problem is found and the cost starts rising. There's also a huge convenience benefit to being able to pick a date and have it all sorted rather than need to deal with getting quotes, surveys and hope people turn up when they say! One question I have (that admittedly I should probably just ask Heatable) is with their standard wireless controls, I presume they'll be connected to the boiler over OpenTherm? I'm wanting to replace them at some point in the future with something smart so having the OpenTherm wiring already coming out of the boiler would be ideal so I don't need to get someone in to open the boiler up.

Simon knocks his pan in for a full day. He supplies his own van and expensive tools, probably his own liability insurance too and his years of experience for £400? Nah! This is not good for the industry or the self employed. How much did the middle man make? £1k? £1.5k? F*ck that!

@@AllenHart999 I only ever did one install for BG around 20yrs or more ago. It was around the same £400 install price back then. Whoever surveyed the job would allocate the exact amount of pipe and fittings that were to be used, and that was all you got Back then, I advertised a full heating system for less than they did a combi swap. When the customer saw my sign written van outside and my local newspaper ad whilst I was installing, I really had no answer to give as to why I could install a full heating system for cheaper BG are still the same money grubbing gits they were way back when. I vowed never I never would take one more job from them, and I never did.

@@jamess6664 Personally I see online boiler companies as the future, I don’t believe they will be going anywhere. I went from 5 boilers a week to 1 a month when Boxt came out. I just cannot compete with them. Manufacturers offering fixed price repair is also a big thing as well, Parts costs so high that we can no longer compete. I totally take on board what you say but everyone is welcome on this channel if it helps us raise standards in the industry.

Well with that attitude Alan we all should give up or go work for the man again , or call them out for instance you can't compete with there quotes because on a number occasions there customers get add ons when the engineer turns up and notices the gas pipe needs upgraded or condensate turns out more than what the customer filled in online these need to be called out but when self employed guys goes to quote he sees everything needing done , I know gor a fact that these online quotes change on many occasions when engineer turns up

i worked for this company and i can say that they are useless and a massive rip off. throw it in and leave is the attitude . never install trvs or comply to basic gas regs and all for £400 less all the extra materials that the engineer has to supply even though they make about a £1000 per job after paying engineer. AVOID

I am amazed by the amount of contents suggesting that £400 is not enough. That seems very good for me for a 4 hours job. This is a rate of £100 per hour which is massive so it is a joke to suggest that it is not enough. Even qualified engineers with a master does not get paid as much per hour.

Are you gas safe engineer for say so. I am afraid you have totally no idea how many hours to do the good quality job and how many years they gain experiences and van, trip, tools, insurance, assessment. it is shame to say that.
