This video covers what happens when you record 2 different speakers at once in a 2X12 CAB - what's the best combo?
The guitar parts used are from me, the track is as yet untitled but may be released in future.
The guitars were recorded through my Peavey 6505+ converted from the 112 combo (and modded a bit) on red channel, with a BOO Instruments OD808. (green channel for the clean section).
The Cabinet used was a Zilla Fatboy 2x12, and the Microphones used were sE Electronics R1 Ribbons and Shure SM57s.
NO EQ WAS USED AT ALL. No compression, no nothing. If you want to EQ your guitars to fit into a mix, that's understandable but we wanted you to know what they sound like straight off the desk.

I like the JS videos as well- I intend to revisit this series soon, with a more comprehensive outlook. It was quite in a lot more in-depth than intended originally, but was quite an early set of videos on the channel. As time’s gone on and the channel grown, there’s a real need to do this more scientifically!

Thank you for the great test, I really like it but have a few things that you might wanna consider in the future: When doing product demos, please list all the gear in the text fields. People usually look for some specific products to listen to, this helps in that. Also, whatever information you can just overlay as text to a soundclip enhances the guitar sound to talk ratio. Then having such a time-consuming test rig to record, you might want to do clean-crunch-higain as instead of just one setting? Those comments are just meant as my personal opinion, your videos are much appreciated and already awesome. Thanks and subbed :)

Did yo ever repeated this with V30 + G12T-75? A lot of people on internet forums claims that is a great combination.

That's what came in my Mesa 4x12 cab and it does indeed sound great. Very bright and clear. Sounds awesome for downtuned stuff.

A lot of discussion about differences in wattage, but it should be noted that the difference in db efficiency is something to consider when mixing speakers in the same cab. If you mix a V30 which is 100 db and a Creamback 65 watt which is 97 db, the V30 is going to noticeably louder. When you're recording both speakers, you can adjust the levels to match both speaker's volumes to each other. Personally, I wouldn't mix speakers in the same cab that are more than 2 db difference in efficiency. To each his own though.

+MrWilly2204 since I record speakers much more than playing live, it doesn't bother me. I gain match mics regardless of their respective volumes so it's not an issue

I respect that. Your videos are very good, and I do appreciate them. I just think that you should mention db difference between speakers because it is a relevant factor when mixing different speakers in the same cab that one should be made aware of if they're not already. It's not so much an issue when you're recording, but it is an issue nonetheless.

Nice video. Creamback Neo has become my favourite speaker. So versatile, and the light weight is a real bonus.

I do like the sound of a V30 on the right amp, but it’s not about “help” so much as alternative flavour and contrast, especially in a mix I find a little of something else helps it find a good place to sit without any eq work

Hi. This is something very educational. I would like to ask how'd u pan them? Are they panned hard L R or panned center? Also, why did you prefer the neo creamback other than it's lighter weight?

Very instructive, I would love to know which speaker sounds the most neutral for pedal using guitarists.

I think i want them all. :) It would be a great thing if you had some sort of a modular cabinet with all those speakers hooked up so you can just flip switches and move mics around when you record stuff. :)

IMO Lynchback and Creamback Neo were the best. Creamback M would probably be good with a marshall though.

Tiger Blood 1978 I have a hunch that the creamback H with a V30 will sound like the best bits of those 2 sounds combined. At least it would seem so from the frequency graphs celestion gives for it.

that v 30 does not even sound like a V30.. it's so smooth and dark compared to how i know them. Why is that? normally there's this 3.5khz and 5.5.khz peak which just hurts. But this thing just sounds broad and lush.
@adamsteelproducer

It’s just a regular 8 ohm V30 (the 16 ohm one is more like you describe)
