i have to weld my pulley to the input. the last one i had to weld both the pulley and the gear to the input shaft. snap rings were failing on the bottom gear and key was falling on the pulley. im kind of getting sick of gear oil all over as i fix mst input shafts, im going to run a longer shaft into bearings somehow .. . or maybe go to peerless 700 running chains to back axle

Awesome detail. Reads like my Poulan Pro has the MST206 if 6-speed or MST205 if 5-speed? Is that correct? The Craftsman has the hydro, so thinking that for yard work and the Poulan Pro is more the off road light weight candidate if not eventually that Cub Cadet. I'll have to read into what's on the Ford YT16's stock as that's my only other geared transaxle other than the mysterious Murray Lawn Chief that has the chain and sprocket axle and a I think Peerless transmission. Just setup a $25 blessing of a FB find HF car port and organized to be able to get the YT's in first to work on the SVT one that will have the White GT185 hydrogear installed to place the sheered axle shaft stock Peerless. Once I get the Garden Tractors fine tuned... the riders will be either sold, tore-down or off-road candidates. Really great detail and appreciate your sharing as always!

12+ years ago I had a leak in the Tuff Torq K61 in my Toro 266-H. The dealer wanted $1,800 for a transaxle which was way more than the tractors value once fixed. I did some research and I found that there was at least 9 variations of the K61 with different placement of the control levers and brake. For all I know there could have been 20 variations of the K61. I bought a surplus K61 specified for a JD for $250 plus shipping.

Great video, those things seem pretty simple...never had to tear one apart, but I still need to find an old lawn tractor to turn into a mud mower. If I recall you mention in several videos the Craftsman yt1000 series lawn tractors make good mud mowers? Rather than destroyed mower decks where I live, its usually destroyed engines, people just beat the crap out of stuff and never bother to check oil levels...so I may end up having to pick up one that's blown and find an engine or break down and throw a Predator engine in it....we shall see, I haven't been doing much looking this year, been too busy trying to find a bank to work with me on a small refinance on the house to get it out of my deceased mother's name...finally succeeded in July, so things are starting to settle down a bit...or were...my 92 year old grandfather fell and broke his hip around the same time I was working on closing on the house so its been a mess around here, haven't been able to do anything this summer as I've been stuck at the house with grandpa not being able to do much of anything. So, I'm hoping this spring/summer I can at least pickup a lawn tractor and then start figuring out what all I'm going to need...probably a good start would be dropping the transaxle and going through it and at least giving it a good start to its harsh life, tires will probably have to come pretty quick, those turf tires don't work very good for anything where I live, even a slight hill when its wet you will just sit there and spin tires and go nowhere LOL. I wouldn't mind tearing a hydrostatic transaxle apart at some point, came close to doing it on my Cub Cadet, the access to change oil in it is horrible...next time the transaxle is getting pulled out of it, so I can simply turn it upside down to drain it, refilling it isn't so bad, its getting the fluid out that's the problem. I've heard of people drilling and tapping a hole in the bottom of the case for a drain plug, but haven't got brave enough to try that one....maybe eventually, might tear the cover off and clean it all out and drill and tap a hole in it that way, but I don't think I want to try and follow their directions to do it while the thing is still in the lawn tractor LOL. My luck I'd hit something important.

Yes older LT1000 are the fastest and easiest to build. The newer Poulan Pro's are made on the same frame and come with these MST205 that is better to use then most of the others.

@@redneckcomputergeek Thanks for the confirmation...I'll keep my eyes out for an LT1000 machine...the Poulan Pro machines are pretty rare in my area....the LT1000s were pretty plentiful for a few years, I haven't really looked this year though, too busy with other things. Have a great week.

I presume older mtd from mid 90s do not have this trans. . Anyidea what type they have ?. Would jb weld work for mowing on cracked housings? What about aluminum weilding ?
@jafinch78
@jafinch78 2 жыл бұрын
Thinking stash the aluminum like rims and block aluminum for later foundry casting aluminum stock to machine... if you have a lathe-mill setup? Guessing depending where the crack is on the housing. Might want to drill each end of the crack first to stop the crack and maybe consider possibly trying Hobart or Benzomatic aluminum rods (best per Project Farm YT channel testing) that you can use a Oxy-MAPP gas torch possibly just propane or straight MAPP unless you have a TIG systems for aluminum.

Those transmissions are so common the water thing doesnt even matter. Just make it seal enough to keep big chunks out and your good. Ifit locks up get a parts trans and fix it.

Hi, I'm hoping for some advice here please. I have a Peerless MST-206-546 on a Husqvarna CT 151 lawn tractor. On the last cut, the machine suddenly got more noisy and I was unable to stop it with the brake (I had to slap it out of gear to stop it). I couldn't see any issues with it but I cleared lots of dry grass from around the transaxle and changed the drive belt just in case. It now drives and stops ok but still noisy. Anyone have any ideas please? (or a better place to ask this question?). Thanks.

Sounds like a chipped input gear. Very common on these MST with age. Reality is you got to break it down and find what is wrong. But if I was putting a bet on what it would be. That is my bet.

In the event you happen to see this, I have an unusual Peerless question for you. I have an 801 5 speed that has a flippin' clutch disc on top of the rear pulley, and it seems to be a rather unusual element as no one I've spoken to thus far has any information on it or even seen one. It was inside an '86 Toro 11-38 where most everything else not attacked by age was in good shape. The clutch disc, however, was torched and in pieces. Last time they made them was in 2005 evidently (long since discontinued even on ebay), and with extensive searching, no joy on replacements. I ended up fabricating one out of a 9" tractor brake disc, it worked fine, but now that I've got it moving I've only got 1st and 2nd gear out of the five forward; reverse works most of the time. Problem here, I've never seen it running before the clutch repair (it was stupid cheap due to the clutch issue and a recent acquisition), so I don't know if our sloped terrain is preventing it getting into other gears or if I'm due to crack it open and do a refurb. If you have seen this model, is the clutch disc even necessary? It seems to be some kind of one-off and never used again, as all the other Tecumseh/Peerless trannys I've researched don't have an actual friction clutch disc setup.
@redneckcomputergeek
@redneckcomputergeek Жыл бұрын
The 801 is the granddaddy to the 820 and MST we use today. The toro soft start clutch was just that a slip plate to make 1st gear softer. If you are having shift problems YES you need to crack it open and clean it.

all the bull gears are not the same some have a much wider slot for the spider gear"s shaft . i straight shaft mine like Doc. but i weld the hub to the shaft. my 490 tecumseh with a 30 mil slide carb. rejetted fat.. snaps keys like butter. hub keys. input shaft keys. it dont care, just SNAP.. and no hub key. no brakes .. .i dont even really get on it. its more powerful than my opp twin. im running 22x11-8 P308 OCELOT back. and very low air pressure . 4 wheeler tire front . back pulley 2 or so and the front is huge. i put few trampoline springs helping the clutch spring. belt last many months, no slip. the Dyna pulls the steep hill in front of the farm faster than cars. no bogging. my Dynamark is a beast. its maroon red and so beautiful. none of our other rides compare... my nephew always says. i think you can beat the mud wizard .. DWL/ and .every 206 i ever had had 5th and 6th gear same. so 5 speeds. why does peerless lie? thanks for all you help. watching you do stuff first makes it so much easier..

Mud wizard is built to be a swiss army knife. In a drag race it would lose to most :) on the 6th gear thing they are 1/8 inch bigger and 3 or 4 more teeth. Why are they like that? My theory is its a throw back to when craftsman needed to hit 8 mph to keep up with MTD. Most back then where 7 mph 5 speed 930 peerless.

I cant find anything on these transaxle and when i seen your video i figured what the heck i try to reach out to you. im looking for a manual for repairs and specks and also what lube or oil is supposed to be in this. the 834 runs and moves fine but id rather not move it i around to much until i know where to check fluids and or change fluids and go from there.
