My partner and I used my income to pay for all living expenses (groceries, rent, etc) and use all of her income to save up and occasionally spend for fun. We like it because it really helps limit lifestyle inflation

I love these tips! Thankfully never had too much trouble with getting my hubs on board with stuff, but I also control the majority of the spending plan so having him increase his input over time has been such a relief!

We’re lucky to be both debt-free when we got married. We have a joint account but we keep our individual accounts as well. We contribute majority of our incomes to our joint account to be put to expenses, savings, etc. Our separate accounts are mostly for fun money like shopping (i love handbags!), gifts for each other, or helping out relatives. This set up works best for us because we’re able to work together to meet our financial goals as a married couple but also gives us enough freedom to do/buy what we enjoy “outside” the marriage. But tbh, even though it’s my own fun money, it just became a habit to still inform each other about individual purchases. I appreciate that we never make each other feel guilty. I bought an expensive bag recently and he was fine with it because I saved for a long time for it 💕 Thanks for sharing this Justine! Hard but important thing to talk about between couples.
