I wonder how well using the tile to print with, instead of the paper would work?

At one point she said working on a commercial glazed tile and another time said it's bisque???
@heidiankers1082 жыл бұрын
yup, I got lost at that point. much as I appreciate , gerstly borate is almost impossible to find in NZ, but the alternative 'frit' had no other info, or amount ...so I am too confused by this point!

Ceramic art daily is, as usual a great opportunity to discover the widest technical improvement for potter....Thank for your video...Clear, pleasant and efficient. Its interesting beacause by making this transfert you also get a very good image of bird designed in white on the blue tile.That I supose could also be fired? As a french one I had a bit of miss understanding according to the blue glaze mixture? Masson undergalze 50% and 50% of an un known ingedrient? Could you help? Regards Philippe

+Club céramique Marquette-lez-Lille 50% Mason stain (brand name "Mason"), 50% gerstley borate (a common flux, available at ceramic suppliers). You could use any other common flux, if gerstley borate is not available to you. :)

I had trouble getting the pigment to come off onto the paper. Is it because the mixture was not right?
@plips717556 жыл бұрын
You keep saying industry...I sssume you mean a commercial tile or any hard fired gloss tile. And that is the next question...should the tile be glazed gloss or a more matt finish, i.e., would a piece of stone tile work with the coloring?

Was your tile bisque or glazed. First you said glazed from hardware store...later in video, you say bisque...can someone clarify please?

Looking for the same answer. My money is on glazed. Paint on let dry repeat. That way you can reuse

Mason stain is a powder, gerstley borate is a powder. What are you adding to make it a liguid to paint on?
@mayaramosg7 жыл бұрын
Water. All glazes need water.

What is birthday blood ? Seems like it would be something she would explain for those unfamiliar with pottery terms. makes the video usless as I have not been able to figure out what the mixture is of to begin with.

Gerstley borate, not birthday blood.

Has anyone tried this? I have. The dry stain/gerstley borate mix on the tile did not transfer to the regular paper. Am I supposed to use special paper?
@jonathanklassen80237 жыл бұрын
So I just tried a transfer onto regular printing paper and it worked perfectly. I was careful to make sure my mason stain was exactly the same amount of grams as the gerstley borate (aka 50/50 mix). I also made it very watery. What you may be running into is that you have created your mixture to thick or applied it to thick onto your tile. I had tried this exact technique before too and it didn't work, and I believe this was because my application on the tile was too thick. So try a thin layer. Also, check your mixture. Finally, make sure the tile you are painting the mix on is a glazed tile (being shiny rather than matte). Hope this helps! This is a sweet technique:)
@cindydouglass76317 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jonathan. I'll check the thickness when I try again.
