Lesson of the day: Always check the quality of a game for yourself. The internet loves to hate on this game, so I myself thought that it was bad. While I still have never played it, this high level play makes this game look damn good!

Well I mean, it is bad. If you've never played a fighting game in your life & this was first, sure you might think it's a good game. But If we're comparing to successful fighting games or just any other fighting game's mechanics in general, this game is absolutely horrendous to play.

@@jamalcharles9533 To add my own two cents, I don't think the mechanics are bad at all, just a little unorthodox. I'd best describe it as being to Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter what Marvel vs. Capcom is to Street Fighter. A 3D fighter that's simplified compared to its sister Sega series (Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers) and very frantic. The unique system for blocking filters a lot of people, too. As for the game's reputation, I think a lot of it has to do with how often it's conflated with Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast, as it was released around the same time and, for what it's worth, it's light on story and even get some details wrong (such as having 8 Chaos Emeralds), so Sonic fans just write it off as being garbage due to those details, despite the gameplay itself being fun (once you get used to it).

Over a decade of broken games, a cheap lackluster series of movies, and the inability to move on from the most mundane of series traditions without ever improving on Sonic's sense of control and game design? Sonic the Fighters (aka Sonic Championship) is so much better than Sonic Battle because Sonic Battle plays nothling like an arcade-styled fighting game. And speaking of Sonic Battle, that game needs a remake and the remade version of Sonic Battle needs the Sonic the Fighters/Sonic Championship treatment. In other words, Sonic Battle on the GBA back in the days was all gimmick and less skill and Sonic Battle was a combination of Power Stone and Super Smash Bros. in the of world Sonic the Hedgehog.

They’re referring to the barriers as meter, although it doesn’t function as meter traditionally at all. You can use one barrier to enter the hyper mode, and use barriers to block. When you run out, you’re out of barriers for the match

It is sometimes a legit strat to drop barrier right before your opponent would use a barrier breaking move to save that barrier in exchange for a slight amount of damage. Also, this is a game where you can spend a barrier to get no end lag on all moves for like 5 seconds or something. Its called resource management. I'm gonna be honest, if this game had infinite barriers, just sitting in barrier and waiting for your opponent to do something would very likely be way too strong and easy, even if it somehow wouldn't be the best gameplan.
