No surprise. They are so similar in the cable TV, internet & mobile provider spaces. But Spectrum doesn't produce or own anything close to the content that Comcast does (they own NBC Universal/Peacock). What does this mean for consumers? As always, higher prices.
@SBRemotes12 күн бұрын
Please no. I am an Xfinity customer and have been stuck in a hospital for months with Spectrum. The Spectrum product was horrible, especially the awful news programs. After 2 days, I turned off the TV, opened my computer and never turned the TV on again. Xfinity is no champ either, but at least it's watchable.

I have 1 Gb fiber for $49/month after $30 off per month for a year. I don't know of anything that can compete with this speed at that price. We recognized the importance of Internet as a utility (instead of cable/satellite) many years ago and we've been OTA and streaming for 10+ years and have saved $1,000's over that time.

@rasheedali61513 күн бұрын
How is one area wired for both companies? Do you have conduits and stuff for both providers? I didn’t think they would be able to do that in areas. Also, AT&T should not be shutting down his copper phone line. Here in Northern California we have Comcast and the majority of my county is served by AT&T for landline service but two cities are FRONTIER.

AT&Ts reaction to price caps in NY is very predictable. The market forces are not allowed to work and it causes less choice. Eventually, NY will end up subsidizing broadband at a cost to taxpayers.

They kinda do compete in the same market in some area. But one has the majority of the market and the other has a county or 2 in theirs. Louisville for example most of the viewing arwa has Charter Elizabethtown in Harden County has Comcast. In Atlanta it's vise versa majority Comcast but in Gwinnett County (or most of it) and Henry County Charter.

My small city has it's own Gas + Electric company. They own the telephone poles. They had access to the dark fiber in the median strip of the interstate. They got into the fiber biz. It took me, almost downtown, about 4 years for my neighborhood to get it. Took my church, which is about a 1000 ft from the town green another 18-24 months to get it. Once we were fiber'd up, they've started offering fiber to the rural places that may not even have internet. Yeah, there's places near me that never had internet getting fiber. Because the interstate runs through their towns even if the nearest on/off ramp is 10 miles away.

Here in my neck of the woods Spectrum is really the only Internet option. AT&T Internet speeds are capped at 6 Mbps. T-Mobile and Verizon offer home Internet service, not sure about AT&T. But their speeds very a lot. Anywhere from 25 Mbps to 150 Mbps. Too many people on the network. I’m not sure what this merger could mean for me. I guess if prices stay the same it should be fine.
@websurfer515013 күн бұрын
The options aren't so real if you try to buy them. Several times over several years I have tried to buy fiber which is right out front. FIVE lines! More going in across the street. Won't sell it to residential. Call back and ask as a business OOO yes sir when do you want it? Of course, it's at a price a residential user won't pay. Star link would be cheaper.

As a former comcast employee , Merging the 2 would be the best thing they could do !!! Spectrum has always been a far less efficient and well run company than comcast , With that said they have always had a below the table agreement not to enter either's area of business .Which if you ask me would have already put spectrum out of business !!!

As opposed to what alternative? DSL was in a lot of areas that didn't have cable. There was no choice. If given a choice, yeah, DSL was a joke. But back then, it was a step up from dialup.

@@dlewis9760 I remember switching to DSL from dialup in NJ I was amazed on I can stream movies with no or very little buffering
@glynnetolar442313 күн бұрын
As I saw it DSL was developed to allow the phone companies to use their 100 year old copper for 'high speed' data services. However that 100 year old copper often was in poor shape in any areas and phone companies only cared about selling services, not quality services. I speak from experience having either DSL or it's cousins. They are never really fast and often unstable. And the phone companies would just complain about how expensive fiber was. Seems to be they were just squeezing every dime out of their long standing copper investment instead. And now they are running away from it as fast as they can. That didn't last long. And coax, for all it's issues still raced past then and the phone companies just kept telling people either how far their service was (lying) or offering fiber (though only available in limited areas). So their marketing was often dishonest.
@donp282712 күн бұрын
A Verizon Home 5G customer for about a year, the service only gets better. Now have consistent 300 down and 25 up and testing on local tower with VZ for band splicing with 500 mbps during some test periods. Now have fixed iPv4 and IPv6, stable and consistent. Of course, Comcast could offer free 5 gigabit for life and I still wouldn't take it.

Why is 5G home internet being made to be out such a big deal when there seems to way to many cons then pros to have that type of service. I live in Michigan and I can only get Comcast or AT&T, neither provides fiber optic internet yet. I still am using DSL internet and I am trying to patiently await fiber optic internet to come to my area, that is if I am lucky enough to get it. Yes I can get 5G home internet but I refuse to sign up for that because if it's anything like my cellphone service through AT&T then it's a waste of time for me.
