Come and explore 'The Casablanca Art School' at Tate St Ives

Come and explore this ground breaking exhibition of Moroccan art at Tate St Ives in Cornwall. The show presents 22 artists who were linked to the Casablanca Art School which exploded into radical experimentation after Moroccan independence in. in 1956. Greats such as Mohammed Chabâa, Mohamed Melehi and Farid Belkahia run shoulders with students and other collaborators from the school. Tate St Ives is the first UK gallery to explore this groundbreaking art school, renowned for teaching experimental techniques.

Well done for highlighting and sharing so many of those artworks . I’ve been to Marocco a few times , but didn’t know how “ modern” some of their artists became after the Independence of the mid-50’s . Also , that Tate gallery is so pleasant to explore inside , and opposite such a beautiful vista of the beach and sea !

Absolutely. This was my first visit since it expanded and it is wonderful to have the two matching spaces for the Tate collection selection and also temporary exhibitions. I remember when it had to close for a rehang. Thank you for watching.

To think about it, then artistic expression is deeply rooted in Moroccan and any berber nomadic culture. They have put their creativity into their ceramics and rugs since the dawn of times. DNA has done the rest 😉Artists are always searching and fighting the repressions to create and show their creativity freely. In my opinion artists can't be conservative...they have to be free, even from their religion. Sure there are religious artists but religion kind of sets boundaries to their creativity. Great exhibition!
