You asked for a war chapter experience Jared: Years ago I was being constantly attacked online. P@rn seemed to be everywhere though I had not looked or clicked on it. I was not wanting it or seeking it but it kept finding me like an attack. I did a good job daily preparing myself spiritually with a personal devotional. I couldn't figure out why my preparations spiritually were not enough to keep these attacks away. I was following the prophet. I was living my religion, going to the temple and to church and so forth. I should have had full heavenly protection I thought. Why was this happening? I prayed and opened the scriptures and pointed. My finger landed on Alma 49:23. I read it but it made no sense. The next day I prayed asking for understanding again, open and pointed using my other set of scriptures. My finger landed on Alma 49:23. Still confused. I prayed the following day again using a third set of scriptures and again and my finger landed on Alma 49:23. Preface: Alma 49:20 Thus they were prepared, yea, a body of their strongest men, with their swords and their slings, to smite down all who should attempt to come into their place of security by the place of entrance; and thus were they prepared to defend themselves against the Lamanites. Then the Laminates attacked... 23....there was not a single soul of the Nephites which was slain. 24 There were about fifty who were wounded, who had been exposed to the arrows of the Lamanites through the pass, but they were shielded by their shields, and their breastplates, and their head-plates, insomuch that their wounds were upon their legs, many of which were very severve. These faithful soldiers followed Moroni. Their bodies were shielded. Their city was shielded and their guards were on the towers. There home was the strongest of all the Nephite forts. They were also covenant keepers under the title of liberty. Yet 50 were wounded severely on their legs. I felt spiritually wound as I suffered attacks to personal to mention but real none the less in my battle to live righteously. I learned from this experience that the righteous won't always be unscathed but will win the battle with Gods help.

That testimony and inspirational story was great, keep up the good work. You never know who will read your testimony and reinforced their testimony. I have had the opportunity to speak with these people that have left to church and constantly attack it. For one thing I figured they are never going to come back to church but I can give them inspired words from the spirit with these wounded Souls of War, a few positive words won't hurt anyone that is wounded and the people that read your words will be affected also in a positive manner. A lot of times they will go to certain verse for you to read, I come back with whole chapters for them to read not just a verse, this way you can get a greater understanding out of the whole chapter and ask them questions, that causes them to think and that's a good thing. They have been damned for a reason because of their attacks, just don't following the same Rat Hole they did with attacks and to discredit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's a sad thing when people will not listen to the prophet and the apostles when they speak the vital information the Lord wants all of us to hear!

We need to be rooted in Jesus Christ, not in the church building, not in the people and social life in church. I was baptized when I was 18 years old. If i hadn't received the witness of the Spirit, I would have left the church building a long time ago. But I was and I am rooted in Jesus Christ and His truths. So, it doesn't matter what people in the church did to me or sometimes do. I will stay strong with the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for sharing that with us. That means more to some than others. That is exactly the way we all need to do things in the church in and outside of the church. Never check your spiritual growth and our God at the door at any time. It stays with you during thick and thin if you want it to be there to guide and direct you. We stand before the Lord daily not other people that may want to influence us to do ungodly things unless it is something like helping others or serving whenever we can without a grudging heart. I have to walk with the spirit each day if not I become gloomy like I am missing something great if I don't read my scriptures and pray even repentance brings the peace of mind. I need the loving spirit of Truth and happiness after reading the scriptures. I have reached a point of no more anger in my life or hard feelings towards others.

You asked us to share principle we have learned from the war chapters. I have several. I'll share just a couple I have found. If you find them interesting , I'd be glad to share them all. Principle: From Alma 43:7 we learn that when our actions are solely based on stirred up emotions, we can become blind of all reasoning. From the beginning, and throughout the Book of Mormon, the main reason the Lamanites had such hatred towards the Nephites is because they were taught and believed that originally Nephi intended to become a leader over his brothers, Laman and Lemuel and subject them to bondage. This false tradition has carried on to the point that the Lamanites believed that the Nephite people still sought to put the Lamanites under bondage and serve the Nephites. Isn't that interesting that the Lamanites allowed what they feared to actually happen? Not only did they join forces with Nephite dissenters but they allowed them to be in charge. In other words, the Nephite dissenters emotionally stirred up the Lamanites to the point that they were blind to the fact that they went down the same path with these wicked Nephites that they fought the righteous Nephites about. We should be careful to act immediately when we are emotionally charged. This is a good rule of thumb in parenting. Principle: From Alma 43:26 we learn that there is strength and safety in numbers even if the only connection is "the cause". Captain Moroni was a wise leader. He was faced with having to protect the land of Manti, a Nephite land against a massive Lamanite army. Moroni's army was smaller than the Lamanite army and was reduced even more from having to divide his men and leave a portion of them to maintain control of another area. To increase his odds, he calls upon those people living in Manti to fight with his army. Now I would guess that these people were farmers, tradesmen, and such. They, most likely, had no training in war, let alone had any interest in fighting. Evidently, Moroni was successful in helping them realize that their lands and families were in danger. My thoughts turn to interfaith community councils. Our enemy is governmental laws being enacted to take our religious freedoms away. Our church sees that threat very clearly. Other faiths, probably not so well. By us joining their councils, we can help them recognize that threat. Like Captain Moroni, we need to increase our numbers to fight to protect our religious freedoms.

One of the things that I learned was that Moroni prepared his people with the proper armor to go to battle, and obviously from other scriptures that tells us to put on the whole armor of God that, that armor was literal, but very symbolic of what we need to do in our lives where as the lamenites were what they called naked, Exposed. If we don’t have All of the armor on, which is what President Nelson has suggested to us to use extraordinary measure to strengthen our foundation, we leave ourselves exposed to the fiery darts of the adversary and we will not be able to stand. It’s the same principal he teaches when he talks about the layers needed to build their fortifications. Another thing that caught my attention was the justification of the cause to defend ourselves, and trying to marry that with the idea in the last days that he will not fight against his neighbor must flee to Zion.

Lots of gems here in the way of principles. The top lesson we get is all the defensive preparation Mormon caused his people to make. This includes the shields, helmets, protective clothing, and the spiritual cause as part of their duty to God. We do the same as we prepare ourselves against sin by following daily prayer, FHE, scripture reading, temple attendance, etc.

We just studied President Nelson’s talk, “We Can Do Better and Be Better” as a family last night, and it reminds me of what President Nelson said… “The battle with sin is real. The adversary is quadrupling his efforts to disrupt testimonies and impede the work of the Lord. He is arming his minions with potent weapons to keep us from partaking of the joy and love of the Lord.“

About 21:00. I had a friend who was raped as a teenager. She went to go talk to the Bishop, because she had some questions and was angry about what happened. The Bishop threatened her that he'd end up having to excommunicate her if she didn't learn how to forgive. That was the beginning of the end for her. I couldn't imagine a Bishop who wouldn't have had compassion on her, and been like Elder Scott had suggested, telling her to lay that aside for now, concentrate on other things in her life, and that she could think about forgiveness at a latter time in her life. I've often wondered where is some people's compassion for those who have suffered trauma. If only she'd been loved and supported, maybe it would have been different. When she and her husband started having questions about the church, people in her ward started telling her if she kept up with her questions, she was going to go to hell. Now she's a practicing pagan. I feel so sad about her story.

As we take our journey into preparing ourselves for the second coming of Christ we need to put on our armour of righteousness...for the onslaught of dissenters from church members are happening now and its fast and furious... just as the Nephites did where they became more Lamanitish, and vice a versa, is truly scary knowing that this is happening right now! today...as frightening this may seem, church members who have lost their faith and beliefs are in fact the very prophecies spoken of in the scriptures coming to fruition...i have learned so much since reading the scriptures and can see for myself how much it reflects the world as it is today and how God's children are being led astray in such away that satan is becoming more influential in their lives...in truth! we need not only put our trust in God, but we need to trust ourselves that we can abide the day and be resilient to overcome those dissenters who have already apostasied, and are now off loading their negativity on everyone who are members and who are struggling with their own faith...what really gets me is when they start to justify why and what their motives were in leaving the Church...however regardless of their reasons, we must support them in whatever way we can and not judge them for their choices to leave and what caused them to do so.

Ok, leaving a comment is a first for me, thank you for the chance to get out of my comfort zone! The concentrated truth that I'd like to highlight is this: revelation requires spiritual AND temporal effort. Moroni sent spies to follow the Lamanite army (temporal effort) AND asked God for guidance via Alma (spiritual effort). Additionally, once they received their answer from God about where the Lamanite armies had gone (spiritual), Moroni still left a portion of his army back (temporal) as a wise strategic decision. The clearest revelation and spiritual confirmations I have ever received in life have come when I've followed this principle.

I believe Mormon use Edonic language in his retelling of the battle in chapter 43. I read verse 19 to represent the priesthood robes. (Breastplate and ephod as head shield, thick clothing as garments of skins) In other words the Nephite are Adam post endowment. And the Lamanites in verse 20 are "naked, save it were a skin which was girded about their loins." Or in other words Adam mid-fall. They "Knew not the dealings of that God who created them." Because they had not been initiated into His Order, or recieved their endowment of priesthood covering. Rather like Adam mid fall tried to cover themselves with only something about the loins. And the dissenters are Cain. They were initiates, they were taught the temple practices/Ordinances but put off their priesthood robes. They were still clothed but they were clothed by the prince of the world not having the Breastplate or Shields

My principle in these chapters is the sons of Ammon’s faith because of their mothers. The sons were certain of its truth because of their complete confidence that they had never found their mothers had lied to them. Like our promoting Santa and the Easter bunny. What I’ve seen is disbelief on Jesus occurs about the same time that children begin to see that Santa isn’t real. Parents teach that the unseen Santa and Jesus are real. When the child recognizes that Santa is false they then lose any confidence in Jesus being real either. Now we see the media and military supporting this as they track Santa along his journey. I’m no parent but what I see in this scripture and around me shows me that if you want your kids to remain accepting of what you tell them as adults don’t lie to them as children

0:38 Does anyone in the Book of Mormon Academy study Native American languages of North America? The first American Bible printed was a 1200 page transliteration of oral Natick, an Algonquin language of Massachusetts from the Geneva Bible by John Eliot in 1663 (according to Wikipedia). It is my understanding that Cherokee or Algonquin had its own written language that appears to be closely related to the some of what we have of the Anton manuscript taken from the Gold Plates. Has or is someone from BYU looked/looking at this?

HISTORICAL NOTE: It is very important to know that the 13th Amendment of the Constitution is when slavery was abolished not the Emancipation Proclamation! The Emancipation Proclamation was political propaganda as only the slaves that were "free" in the states in rebellion, e.g the South. As the South were fighting for states' rights in the Civil War. It is essential to read D&C 87 (generally) but specifically D&C 87:1 that South Carolina will leave the Union (and the Southern states leaving the Union as state's rights but becomes much more complicated verses 2-6.) D&C 87:7 is essential to understand why the Civil War is such a brutal war and the losses from it: "That the cry of the saints, and of the blood of the saints, shall cease to come up into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, from the earth, to be avenged of their enemies." The blood of the Saints, the blood of the Prophet are avenged by the Lord through the Civil War. The Civil War is punishment and once the war ended, the Lord again blessed the United States of America through freedom for all. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land and Congress voted the 13th Amendment which is line with the Christian value of liberty.

The concept of "strategem" and using God-given intellect and skill to help us navigate life's challenges stuck out to me this time. Moroni didn't pray for guidance on every little detail of the war, waiting for strong revelation before acting. He trusted that God had already given him skill, intelligence, and personality necessary to accomplish the tough tasks without hand holding him all the way. Perhaps God doesn't want to spoon feed us answers all the time and micromanage all our decisions, but wants us to exercise our agency on our own with the talent and intelligence He has already given us.

Hi brother Halverson, I always appreciate your perspective. Because you do study rhetoric and interact frequently with people that are in faith crisis, I’d be interested in hearing your take on what you feel the most common causes for dissension in the church are in more recent times. I personally don’t know many that have left the church. But I know there’s an overwhelming amount of angry attackers on the internet and I’m always very curious as to what the real reasons are behind their anger. Right now the main reasons I see people in the internet world leaving is because of “anti Mormon” literature being used in very flattering ways. I rarely hear people talking about personal issues.. it’s always critics on this doctrine or that piece of church history that they just didn’t like for whatever reason.. to understand these types of dissensions they often try to drag us down their same rabbit holes of anti Mormon propaganda. How do you propose we understand these types of people if we don’t want to understand or look into the critical sources they often cite?

It seems like these War chapters are coming somewhat early in our day and time. We are moving closer and closer to Enemy Lines. I feel we are being prepared as we speak for war and there's no more time to sit on a bench under a shade tree. You can call this part of the great battle of Armageddon especially spiritually now but later it can easily get physical depending where our heart is and knowing what to do at all times during this battle. Many of the casualties will most probably be our own children, did we prepare them enough or were we distracted buy the world or work? These lessons from our great teacher is vital to our survival in Christ. Did we endure to the end? Thank God we can watch these lessons at home with this great technology we have nowadays!

I'm going to repost the same comment I put on the next video here: Thank you so much for your insights. The Spirit has taught me a lot through your words. You asked us to share things we've learned from these chapters with you. I know you're a busy guy, so I don't want to add to your plate, but I really want to give you a couple resources that have made a big impact in my life, and the lives of many others- which I think you will also find very insightful and helpful to many, especially with your obvious interest in psychology. Please read the book "Like Dragons Did They Fight" by Maurice Harker- founder of Life Changing Services. The scripture reference for the title is Mosiah 20:11 when the people of Limhi are fighting for the same things on the title of liberty, but the book talks a little about the sons of Helaman and other Book of Mormon warriors, or has parables written as if scenarios happened to Moroni's men. It is a fairly quick read, and there may even still be an audio version of the original available. (It was recently revised in 2022 to make it more generalized to more people, rather than just young men struggling with pornography problems. However, the original was the version I listened to, and I was still able to pretty easily pull out the principles that I could learn from, as a young mom.) Here is a link to obtain a free eBook. www.lifechangingservices.org/like-dragons-did-they-fight-free-download/ And here is the link to the free eBook of it's companion book (also a quick read), "Never a Happier Time" (Alma 50:23) which has more of the psychological warfare principles specifically drawn out of the war chapters (and which I also hope you can read). www.lifechangingservices.org/never-a-happier-time/ As you know, the war between remembering (Christ and our reasons for fighting) and forgetting is real, and we need all the help we can get in both physical and spiritual ways. That first book talks a lot about the training that is received in the Sons of Helaman program at Life Changing Services. I am a part of their Mothers Who Know program (referring to the mothers of the Stripling Warriors), which uses very similar tools. The application of the gospel principles I've been taught my whole life has changed my life as I've come to better know my Savior, who I am, and who the enemy is. _________________________________ On a very different note, I'd love to talk with you about some ways I might be able to better help my husband who no longer believes in the gospel or God. Brother Halverson....we met you at the MCO concert in Palmyra. Our grandsons are in the choir, 17 years and 14 years old. We love your Unshaken. Podcasts. We teach at the Utah State Prison. You are such a hopeful person. Would you consider speaking at a Wotship service on a Sunday or doing a FHE on a Monday?? FHE would be so awesome for the men in Bear River Branch. Please let me know. Thank you for all your teachings. You are amazing.

Alma 43: 24 says And it came to pass that the word of the Lord came unto Alma... Word has a footnote which leads us to Isaiah 31:5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it. "The word" often means Jesus and "the Lord" can mean Jesus or Heavenly Father in the Book of Mormon. So here's my principle: The Word = Jesus; The Lord = Heavenly Father which means we can read this to mean the Son of Heavenly Father came unto the prophet of their day to defend His people by telling the prophet warnings of the enemy's movements and plans ahead of time so they could prepare.

Brother Halverson, The Prophet Joseph had his version of the title of liberty with his “The Standard Of Truth” written so eloquently and sent off to John Wentworth and written for our “Cause”.

Been watching since the start even thru the 3 hour videos your new platform lattey the ones where you condense to principles lost me. Old people sometimes have a hard time with new ways, but going from 101 or 201 then jumping to 401 to post graduate thinking lost me really enjoy your videos but the spirit left this week

I love you example of applying Moroni's just war theory to the Civil War! I taught American history for many years and used the song "John Brown's Body Lies A'Moldering in the Grave" to show how the "Just war cause" went from political to spiritual as the song morphed into The Grapes of Wrath. I hope a few will think about that in context of today's "wars"
