When my baby, Matthew, started having seizures just a few months old, we were thrust into a lifetime of unplanned broken dreams. I was told he chose to walk that path and chose me to be his mom. I had faith enough for him to be healed, but was told it was not Matt's desire. He chose to fulfill this mission. I prayed and asked the Lord to change my heart from resistance to joy. Before I got up from my knees, he had changed my heart and am grateful for the perspective he gave me...even though there were incredibly difficult times, there was also indescribable joy. Being his mom has been one of the hardest things I've been called upon to do. Then, at the age of 22, Matthew returned with honor from this mission to return to heaven. I am blessed to have been his main mission companion in this life. ❤️

I love your lessons. I don’t know if anyone will see this but I think it’s important to acknowledge that before we can move on we have to grieve/mourn the loss-and that timeframe looks different for each person. So don’t feel like something is wrong with you if you can’t move on yet. I had a major loss 6 years ago and just now am beginning to be able to get back to things-sometimes. 🙂 be kind to yourself. Be kind to others. Don’t judge. Sit with them. I know that’s what Jesus does. He sits with us until we can catch our breath and get up. No rush.

My husband of 50 years passed through the veil and into the eternities last year. This loss is so hard on me; despite all my knowledge of eternity and the kindness and love of my family. My dearest Russ and I shared such a beautiful and wonderful love. I am so grateful for our loving relationship and true friendship. My loneliness knows no bounds. This lesson is helping me to ask my Savior to help me carry this sadness, and trust in God as I pour out my heart to Him. Thank you

I cannot thank you enough for this lesson. Tonight I had reached my breaking point spiritually as I'm caring for my dying child. I was on the brink of losing all of my faith. I absent-mindedly turned on this video as I was crying my eyes out and was done begging God. Your experiences and words touched my heart and brought me back to be willing to pray again and listen. I was blessed with comfort and understanding far beyond my compacity and my soul has finally been consoled. I pray that the Lord will bless both of you for your service and testimonies freely given to a worn-out mom.

My Mom and Dad presided over a mission 20+ years ago, and my Dad came home with stage 4 prostate cancer (agent orange induced from Vietnam). It was so sad and so hard to see my strong, wonderful Dad live his last 9 months. My sorrow was great. I cleaned out a small perfume vial and collected my tears over those months as Dad was dying, and then I tucked that vial in his hands just before the casket was closed. I like knowing that my Dad holds my tears in his hands. I have another vial ready to use for my 95 year old Mom when her time comes.

I just have to say how much I love Don't Miss This! David and Emily always bring the scriptures to life for me. I know all too well what it is to lament. To say that my life has not turned out how I had hoped would be an understatement. My husband and I have five children, three sons, and two daughters who are all adults now. All three of our sons walked away from the church and many of the values that we had tried so desperately to instill in them from birth. We taught them the best we knew how. We taught both by word and example. We watch as the consequences of some of their choices come and it's so hard. One of our sons took his own life when he was 23 years old. This would not have happened had some of the choices been different that lead him down the road to depression. This may not be the case for everyone suffering from depression, but for him, it was the case. Through the grief and pain, I had to give this burden to my Savior. There were times when I know that he carried me because I was ready to collapse from the loss of my precious boy. I am frequently overwhelmed by the unmet expectations of life and continuous trials and burdens. Yet through it all, my testimony remains solid. I know that because of the Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ, my family will be forever. Emily, It sounds like you and I may be close to the same age. I have many baskets that I bought as a young mother that are similar to yours.

I love the combination of lamenting and trusting. My 23 year old daughter died in a car accident just a week and a half ago. I am going through a lot of lamenting, but also a lot of trusting. I don’t know why God allowed this to happen, but I trust Him. I know that He would never let this happen unless something amazing is going to come from it. I’m so grateful for my Savior for allowing me to lament and for carrying my burden when it’s too heavy.

My second son was born with very rare birth defects, requiring surgeries throughout his life and living with poor health for the rest of his life. It was also hard because I had an older son and eventually younger son's along with a spouse who really wasn't helpful or involved in the care of our children despite needing to be. Yet I would go through all of it again because of the sacred experiences I received. I knew my Heavenly Father was carrying me on this hard journey. My son had the best Drs and such caring nurses to help him/me throughout the 1st 21 years. Now at 23, he has the best primary Dr to care for him.

This lesson is exactly what I needed to hear. My heart had the burning feeling I get just before I bare my testimony. I know I was listening to pure truth. My husband died last October. In the months after his death there were so many times when I couldn’t feel the Savior’s love and comfort. Now I know why. I hadn’t let him into my heart and asked him to help carry my burden.

I always feel that the current lesson is the most relevant for me but this lesson is truly the most relevant -- this idea of lamenting and not feeling guilty about lamenting but allowing lamenting to help me work through the trial. That maybe going through the lamenting part of the journey will be the thing that helps me find the "hope in the morning" that I so long for.

Thank you so much Emily and Dave for this beautiful lesson it has stirred up some tender mercies and loving kindness from our Father in Heaven and Savior. After coming out of a very dark time in my life this was my Psalm, I felt to share it here in case anyone else might benefit from it, it guided me to the life he had planned for me. Trusting In The Sunshine How have you done this? How could you know? My heart felt so broken and bitter and cold But you knew the sunlight was within my reach Watching me, patiently waiting to teach My heart couldn’t take it, I felt I would fall Past all redeeming I built up a wall So tired from fear and from pain But you called to my heart so I could begin again It must have hurt to see me feeling so broken I know you watched earnestly for me to be awoken Knowing that your light would bring confidence and peace They left the moment I doubted my faith to believe When I wanted to run and hide from my shame You helped get my head and heart back in the game Showing me as you always do That your love is enduring constant and true Faith became the anchor, hope my guiding star To lead me gently back into your loving arms You offered forgiveness, which then set me free So now I can be who you know I can be Your love is a lighthouse, steady and strong When the waves of doubt are dragging me down My rescue is certain, the storm will subside When I offer my heart and let you be my guide

I was reminded of when the Lord was with me every step of the way through the unchartered waters of a particular phase in my life. I held on to the iron rod. Wrote in my journal every morning after prayer and scripture study. Whatever i wrote each morning was like a revelation to get me through that particular day. Once i got the impression of not seeking any human help and trust in the Lord; strangely that day and the following days, colleagues who never volunteered to help in 15 years, came asking if i needed help. Although i was comforted and so tempted, i refused graciously. But the Lord was with me through every step and the most difficult part which i thought would last a month, he resolved it all in a week. I was asked to let go completely and leave it all in his hands. It was so scary but i did it with prayers and fasting and trusting Him. Thats when the miracle happened. I feel so tender every time i think of this big Help. And i can truly say it was the Lord who helped me, not any human being.

It was from the two of you back in 2020, where I learned that's it's ok to lament and ask God why. I learned from the two of you that it's ok to complain and be angry, but not to stay there. To let God lift you out of that despair. My life is forever changed because of that lesson learned. Thank you for your heart and testimony of the Savior and His goodness and mercy.. A lot of progress has happened though that time. It made me realize what my husband and his mother must have gone through. My husband cried watching you share your experiences. In July of 2009 my business lost more than half our income never to recover again. At the end of that year our second eldest son`s 4 year old daughter hung herself by accident. Two years later her three year old sister was diagnosed with diabetes. Later that same year our eldest son who had been married for 10 years lost their first born at birth after trying to have children all this time. Both sons were returned missionaries. I had served as a bishop for 7 years after being released served as an ordinance worker for three years and on the high council when all this happened. I know Heavenly Father loves me and that He would never allow me, my wife or our children to bear more than we would be able to handle. 12 years later I know that these trial`s were meant for our family. The pain never goes away but time heals. Jesus Christ not only died for our sins but also to help us bear our sorrows, burdens and illnesses. I have witnessed this and experienced it on many occasions during these times. All I can do is testify that I know that if we have Faith in Him things will get better.

Are you familiar with "chesed"? This is the Hebrew word generally translated as mercy or loving kindness and refers to God's covenant faithfulness

Thank you for wonderful weekly videos, much appreciated, wish there was a way to send a PM as the hair constantly in the eyes and face of the lovely Emily made this video somewhat painful to watch... feel free to move it during the taping... :)

Thank you for your insights and experiences. They help me relate the lessons to my own life. I just have one little thing to say. I hope you don’t mind. Selah is pronounced SEE luh, not SAY law. Correct pronunciations for many Bible words and names can be found online.

I absolutely love watching these videos. They have increased my knowledge of the scriptures. Emily, you mentioned a painting with Christ, yoke, and a woman. What is the name of the painting? Who painted it? I would love to get one. Thank you both for all of your knowledge and for allowing us to be spiritually fed.

Hi there! Does there exist a list of the time line pieces and their associated numbers? I'm trying to catch up and I've tried going through the news letter week by week but it's not quite lining up so I'm sure I've messed something up :) haha. Having a list of the pieces and their numbers would help so much! Also, you guys are great. Thanks for everything you do!
