I happened to listen to this today on my husband's birthday. He died last year from brain cancer and just before we discovered he was so ill, we discovered on KZbin, a young missionary singing the hymn pirate style. We laughed till we cried. Our teenaged grandkids loved it too! To honor him, we chose it for the opening hymn at his funeral. The family agreed Pop Pop approved and we all smiled through our tears as we sang it together. Great message. I was grateful to be reminded of it on a day when I'm missing him so much!

I like to think of commandments as instructions or directions to becoming as God is. If you ask the question "What Christ like attribute will keeping this commandment develop in me" you can see that every commandment is designed to bring about that becoming. Thanks for these videos -each on has helped me see deeper into the scriptures and uncover new insights. 🙂

I have never thought of the prodigal son story in the New Testament as a comparative story to all of us trying to get back home on the long lonely journey to our loving heavenly father. Thank you so much for pointing that out. It really gave me chills to think about it… I am the prodigal one that needs to work on getting back. Christ is the “fatted calf” who sacrificed His life for me. His pain becomes my joy in the end🤩

Thank you for enriching my Gospel understanding so much every week. I loved the idea that God's love is not conditional but there are conditions to be one of God's Covenant People. In our day we have the Garden/Cross/Tomb to think on to remember Christ's love for us but in the OT they remember the parting of the sea. I think that's why the scriptures say so many times to remember it.

I love how you both make the scriptures applicable to us. Your journal musings hit it out of the park this time, Emily. What you wrote could possibly be the most important thing I will learn all year: "And I wonder if i will come." Like David said, it was phrased in normal, everyday language, and that somehow made it very personal and powerful. Thanks for such vulnerability, both of you. Thanks for sharing!

It was a strange transition when I first started, but… I listen to y’all while I workout. It helps me focus and drives me to my goal as I lose my thoughts in self progression in the Lords narrow way. Love it! May the Lord be with you both and keep you on that covenant path so we can all continue to benefit from both of your talents. 💕

If you set a goal bigger than yourself- that requires divine assistance. I testify that you will relate to the children of Israel. Days feel like years. You often feel impatient with the lord to help you move forward.. it’s humbling. I have found myself too many times thinking “I guess he’s not going to show up, I’d better find my own solution”

How often just before a mission, or when good is about the Lord’s work, does all the dark rage against the good? Or in the way of evil convince us of the strangest things- a fine gold thread that becomes our own noose? How often do we head in the right direction, only to be distracted? The world’s temporary glory Distracts with promises of glory or attention? Are we really that different from Israel’s children? Are we not close to walking with God and yet falling away at the same time? Have we not been distracted by false leaders, differing opinions, false gods of money? This cautionary tale is no different than our people, blessed beyond belief falling away while the Lord, closer than ever to coming down from a different mountain to lift us up calls us, begging us to stay. How will our story unfold?

My understanding of "Grace" is two fold: 1st through the Grace of Jesus, all mankind will be resurrected no matter how righteous or evil they may be. I believe that those such as a "Hitler" will come forth in a later resurrection. However, only those who believe in Christ and follow Him by Repentance, Baptism,. receiving the Holy Spirit, and obeying His commandments, will be blessed with His Grace of a higher Kingdom.

However, it wasn't even 40 days because they'd already given up AND built the golden calf BEFORE Moses gets told by Jehovah to go down to his people who've rebelled. Can you explain why the Lord says in 34:7 that he will “visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and fourth generation”. Isn’t this the opposite to what is stated in the 2 article of faith that “ man will be punished for their own sins”?
@meghanchristensen60702 жыл бұрын
I've wondered this same thing. How I see it at this point in my life is that He isn't necessarily punishing following generations for sins of parents/grandparents, but He allows natural consequences. It's not unusual to see children and grandchildren of people have to cope with the consequences of parents'/grandparents' choices, like the choice to turn their back on God, or to succumb to addictions, or to embrace a particular culture that may be in opposition to God's ways. We are all influenced for better or for worse by prior generations' choices. But that doesn't mean God won't be there for us when we turn to Him, even if it takes a long time to truly break negative generational cycles.
