Again, another beautiful car on my bucket list ...the Ford Territory and the MX6

My Dad's last car was a 2005 Volvo S80 2.5T, my mom still drives it, it is a bit thirsty in town at 14l/100 but will comfortably do 8l/100 on the open road. One of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven and solid as a Rock.

preventative maintenance! replace drivebelt tensioner and belt, replace alternator overrun pulley. tensioner can throw drivebelt, which will wrap around the crank pulley and break the cambelt, destroying the cylinder head when pistons hit valves.

Preventative maintenance and strictly adhering to the schedule thereof is paramount in any car. That's why chains snap in Mercs too...

What a nice car for someone with the appetite for Volvo ownership. One thing is for certain, there's not much more to lose in depreciation

Lovely S80. For anyone potentially buying one, these later P3s have a few issues including the windscreen seal failing and also the serpentine belt can come off and interfere with the timing belt on the diesel. There is a good interview online with Peter Horbury explaining his annoyance that Ford insisted they use their platform for it, which Volvo wasn't happy about. Overall though, I think the S80 has aged well and, in this day and age, it stands out for... not trying to stand out! Definitely on my shopping list.

The key is of course buying one with a comprehensive and complete service history. The auxiliary belt/ tensioner issue is well documented and its failure is almost always a result of not adhering to Volvos recommended replacement intervals. If you find a decent one, snap it up!

I agree: the older S40's/60's/80's are great value for money. Volvo spent millions on researching seat design and it tells - surely the most supportive comfortable seats of almost any car on the road. Do be careful about some auto boxes tho - very prone to giving up/giving trouble.
