Come Hike With Me #1: Cape Chignecto Loop Trail (Nova Scotia)

On the August 2019 long weekend, I decided it was finally time to explore Nova Scotia's provincial park that has most intrigued me - Cape Chignecto. The Cape Chignecto Loop Trail is approximately 45km, the bulk of which winds along the beautiful coast of the Bay of Fundy.
Thankfully the trail is not directly impacted by the rise and fall of the tides, so you get to appreciate the drastic change over the hours as you truck up and down the rocky terrain. I spend 3 nights camping on the trail, eventually completing the full loop and this video will give you an idea of what to expect if you're ever inspired to do the same!

Loved this hike, it was my first hardish hike (ups and downs) and it prepared me for the Long Range Mountains in NFLD and then the Fundy Footpath later on. I really enjoyed the forest hike to Eatonville but if I ever do the hike again I would start at that end so my pack would be lighter for the harder stuff! lol I can remember when I did it there were two hikers coming in with a big bag of apples and a huge block of cheese. When we met them they were just sitting there eating and insisted we join them. They had heard that the hike was going to get a bit rougher from some other hikers so wanted to unload the heavy stuff! haha! Another hike I really enjoyed which was a bit of distance but quite easy was the Liberty Lake Loop at Keji National Park. Keji is one of my favourite places, it is up there with the Long Range Mountains and a place in Cape Breton called Pollet's Cove. I think I have been to almost every backcountry campsite at Keji whether it be by foot or canoe. :) I really enjoyed your photography, well done! Interesting comments re site 1 at Little Bauld. My on-going concern for this park is trail and site wear due to excessive traffic. The province needs to spend some time and money on the trail between the cape and Eatonville. Thanks for the vid just at the little bauld section looking forward to your experience the rest of the way.

Good choice! The forecast is looking pretty good for you but never hurts to hunker down when you sense there might be rain imminent. The night part about the loop is that it is pretty easy to make up for lost time because the total distance isn't too too far. Have fun!

Thanks for the video. How are the camp sites? Are there good trees for hammock camping?

Sorry I'm a bit late checking notifications! I liked the camp sites quite a lot, good mix of privacy and water access. The trees are passable for hammocks by east coast standards though I didn't end up bringing mine. You may have to get creative depending on the specific sites

Do you have to book the campsites through the park or is it just first come first serve?

Assuming procedure hasn't changed, all needed to be booked in advance. From what I have heard it's usually only busy on weekends so outside of that you should have mor flexibility if you wanted a slower/faster pace than expected
