That's a great question - it was heavily debated early on, but when I looked at the existing pieces being sold it felt like there was no way to differentiate ours (probably why most of them are insane colours now lol). I ended up making the call to go a different route and keep it as minimal as possible. We were hoping to do touques in lieu (my preferred layering), but sadly it couldn't come together before my collaborator moved out.

A wonderful packraft adventure. I have an Alpacka packraft and use it in the same way, to explore lakes around HRM. Love that it is 5lbs and because of that I can pack it in to lakes that are not accessible to everyone. :) :) Been on a few and prefer the small ones. Easier to manage wind wise. lol Terence Bay area is beautiful but very rocky. I am wondering if better for a hammock rather than a tent? I have never camped there but had heard really good camping spots are scarce. Thanks for sharing your night out! Hopefully you will explore more lakes and take us with you. :) :)

It's funny because I feel simultaneously late to the packraft party and early! I didn't see any hammock opportunities because the trees seem too dense but I would at least be a comfortable sleep if they can be found haha

Hi, Curtis. Having done a taste of backpacking the Fundy Footpath a few days ago, I tremendously enjoyed this video. Beverly at the Long Beach Interpretive Center helped me out too! She radioed the maintenance folks and Jack, the manager, came and kindly gave me a ride to my car at P8. I had backpacked 8km from Big Salmon to Seeley Beach and tented there. Then, hiked up the Sealy Beach footpath to the road and hitched a ride to the Long Beach Center. I'm from Massachusetts and had spent several days in the Machiasport area of Maine, hiking with friends around the Schoodic Peninsula and Quoddy Head. I very much wanted to check out the Fundy Footpath, so continued on to St. John and St. Martin's and the Footpath. Hope to get back and do more of it one of these days. Meanwhile, I've been section-hiking the Appalachian Trail and have done about 570 mi so far.

That's quite the adventure, great to hear! The seem to be so many cool areas on the AT, it's awesome you found a way to fit it into your lifestyle because a ~6 month excursion is not easily doable for most.

Sorry I'm way behind on notifications. It's very similar in terms of terrain, but quite a bit longer. The footpath felt a lot more isolated even though I actually crossed paths with more people there. My only caveat to recommending it is how boring it can be solo (not really grand vistas, etc). But It's a good test of skills for thru-hikes which are pretty rare in the Maritimes.

Hmmm..i think for a starter and travel tripod It's better not to overspend on something you're going to be dragging around the world.. If you're going to be static and are going to be doing more video or something that's work related I would save the money and get the mefoto and use the money you would save getting the mefoto and get a high quality larger tripod that can take a beating if you're going out in the field or if you're going to be working constantly.. as far as I travel tripod I like mefoto for the price.. But some of the stuff on there is unnecessary. I'm a working videographer and photographer and I used a cheap dolica until just recently when I went out to do landscapes because I didn't want to get an expensive tripod salty in the water.. The dolica ended up lasting me 10 years lol Even with the salt

Thank you very much for this post-trail analysis. You're right about the difficulty getting recent information - plus the confusion (just me?) with everything out there having similair names. Fundy Trail, Parkway, Footpath, Park, Salmon this, that and the other thing... oy vay! Anyway, really appreciate your thoughts, esp around bugs and footwear. I'll be going yoyo this week 🤞

Thanks for this video! You’re right. There’s not a lot of good info out there on this supposed “one of the top 50 trails in the world.” 8:20 in my experience there are people who use hiking poles and then there are people that don’t use them YET. The number of people I’ve seen converted over the years is in the 90% range. Just load up those pack and send them down a steep grade. Their mind figures it out fast. Haha

I have been watching a few a your videos sine I am searching for a maybe 4 days hike. I would lime your opinion. Is Cape Chignecto easier, much easier then the Fundy Foothpath? I got to be careful with my knees. 😊
@curtis.strange
@curtis.strange Жыл бұрын
Yes I'd say Chignecto is a better choice in that scenario because you have easier options to complete a full loop or not if you're suffering (to walk it takes a few hours or much more options for taxi/hitch hiking). I may be remembering with rose coloured glasses but Chignecto was mostly hard because of my terribly heavy/overpacked gear at the time. As long as you pack light you should be able to focus on the fun of it more.

@jacqueline7118
@jacqueline7118 Жыл бұрын
@@curtis.strange Saddle bags will be excellent! May have to still carry a light pack but that is better than a heavy one. I had the pleasure (NOT) of having a heavy one on a bikepack at Keji. We biked back to Mason's cabin. It was a hard bike so know what you mean, although there were no higher speeds for me. :) The person I was with also had a load, he fell over and kinda turtled on the ground for a bit. I did help out once I stopped laughing! lol He was fine and no worse for wear!

The Benro Roadtrip is a great tripod, but don't expect much customer support! The head assembly is not user-serviceable at all. Mine had play in the panning action even when locked, which worsened to some pitching over a few uses. Benro USA never responded. Benro China said must be a screw loose, return to Amazon! Buying another brand, even though it's a nice tripod BUYER BEWARE!

What a wonderful winter/spring trip! You certainly capture the beauty of the place, your filming and pics are fantastic! CB is one of my fav places, next to NFLD. :) I have only visited in summer/fall but it would be really cool to hit the trails on snowshoes. There is supposed to be an old trail from Meat Cove to Pollet's Cove that I was going to explore years ago, heard it was challenging but never got around to it. Thanks for sharing your trip! :) :)

That's a good tip. CB is one of those places where it's easy to skip over a lot of cool stuff if you're missing local knowledge because the stuff posted online can be narrowly targeted to summer roadtrips/day trips. I'm glad I've been able to run through the Cabot so many times but there is much more to uncover!

for $500 difference it better win out over the MeFOTO. I would also suggest the aluminum Peak Design at a better price point than the carbon fiber It's almost $300 cheaper than the carbon fiber and only about 1lb difference and the rest of the design is similar to the carbon fiber. ⦿ MeFOTO Aluminum/Titanium: $149 ⦿ Peak Design Aluminum: $379 ⦿ Peak Desing Carbon Fiber $649

Indeed it's pretty wild how much the carbon fibre prices have gone up since the original Kickstarter, many better value alternatives these days for travel or otherwise

Unfortunately it's not likely because the general tour boats don't pick up passengers due to capacity limits. You could try to contact bontours to see if they'd be willing to do a custom pickup though as they seem open to ad-hoc services based on my email interactions

Loved this hike, it was my first hardish hike (ups and downs) and it prepared me for the Long Range Mountains in NFLD and then the Fundy Footpath later on. I really enjoyed the forest hike to Eatonville but if I ever do the hike again I would start at that end so my pack would be lighter for the harder stuff! lol I can remember when I did it there were two hikers coming in with a big bag of apples and a huge block of cheese. When we met them they were just sitting there eating and insisted we join them. They had heard that the hike was going to get a bit rougher from some other hikers so wanted to unload the heavy stuff! haha! Another hike I really enjoyed which was a bit of distance but quite easy was the Liberty Lake Loop at Keji National Park. Keji is one of my favourite places, it is up there with the Long Range Mountains and a place in Cape Breton called Pollet's Cove. I think I have been to almost every backcountry campsite at Keji whether it be by foot or canoe. :) I really enjoyed your photography, well done! In terms of general notes I'd say do whatever you can to cut down on packing non-essentials because heavy packs can bring down the mood, and opt for lighter weight trail running shoes that don't retain much water if possible. The plateau is very very wet so feet are sure to be damp by day 2, but if you can mitigate that impact you'll likely avoid blisters or other such unpleasantness! Have fun out there, it's a memorable one
