I want to go on a writing retreat one day. It sounds really peacefull and like you could really get some writing done.

You can book a room at a local hotel and go there and write there. There, a local writing retreat. You just need to walk/bike/run/drive there. But at least there is no airfare or trainfare. If you have a lot of money to spend, then you can spend it on a luxury hotel. If not, then a little cheap motel would do just fine. If you have no money to spare, then well, you can just visit the local library and do some writing there. Nice and free. 🙂

The Michigander in me was super happy to see Michigan! We do love our fudge up north, lol. I have lived here my whole life and i have yet to actually go to Mackinac Island (oh the shame!) in fact, this summer was the first time I went to the UP 😮. Been up north to other places loads of time. But my kids are obsessed with the idea of Mackinac Island so we will go one day! This retreat looked like so much fun. The ideal balance of work and play time and exploring. Plus, not an overwhelming amount of people. Glad you had fun!

This looks so cozy! Ive gone to a few personal writing retreats at Highlights in PA, and it wasn't a structured retreat like this (though they do have those! Personal retreats (or they used to be called Unworkshops) were all up to your own decision). I love the idea of going on a week long retreat though, all of mine were over long weekends. You should def visit the Highlights Retreat Center some time! It's great!

Your shots of the ripples of the lake look So WILD. like the ripples going one way and then bigger ripples going another. So cool! (It feels like a clue in a mystery novel that's hidden in plain sight.)

I saw the 7:30 AM yoga and I was like, "Nope." If anyone knows of a writing retreat geared toward night owls, I want to know about it. Also, there should be an app for finding critique partners, like a dating app.

Michigan! I love living here so much, and videos like these remind me I need to get out and enjoy the nature more often! I haven't been recently bc its too cold and ugly (everything is bare, dead, or hidden away), we haven't had good long-term snow yet, and this time of year that's the only motivating factor to go out and see

That looks absolutely amazing! :) I was confused at first - couldn't figure out how Michigan could have leaves and not snow at this point. Ha! Now I get it. Put-In-Bay is awesome, too! Sounds like a lovely time - I hope to find a writing group to do retreats at some point! It would be so awesome!

Woo! Ideal writing retreat: chill get-together of writers for 3-7 days in a cool place where we could explore when not writing. I think more than 10 writers would be overwhelming but I liked the number at the Wander Writers Retreat in July 2022 by Jessi Elliott (I know Kate knows who that is but in case someone else doesn't). The statue of the guy in the square just reminds me of a very important plot point in Netflix's Wednesday (have you watched that, yet, Kate?)

Ahhh, I only watched that one episode over at my friend's house! My partner had been debating watching with me so I've held off. I'll have to nudge and see if I can start without him lolol. And oooh, how many people did y'all have in July '22??

As a total newbie, where does one find an online writing community? Basically, how do we make writing friends as adults? Would welcome suggestions, especially for romance and mystery!
@KateCavanaugh2 жыл бұрын
That's why I first joined authortube!! That's how I've found all my writing friends as an adult, through watching/commenting on videos. There's so many little pockets now too, that's it's easier to find people who are interested in other, overlapping hobbies. I'd definitely check out The Troublemakers and everything they have going on. :)
