You can sing this as a lullaby or hold your child in your lap and rock them as you sing. But my favorite way to "do" this song is to sit face to face, either with knees up and feet together (this works especially well when 2 children do it together) or with your legs straight and your child's feet between your lower legs.
It's always been a circle time favorite!
