My favorite verse. "Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God." Reminds me of when I was in church kneeling in prayer and felt and saw as the presence of God entered my heart. My lovely sweet late husband taught me this song to play on the organ at the church because he didn't feel well enough to play himself. We sang this in church today and I learned from the sermon this The word Ebenezer means “stone of help.” The reference comes from I Samuel 7. After defeating the Philistines, Samuel raises his Ebenezer, declaring that on this spot God defeated the enemy. Thus, the words, “hither by thy help I come.”

This was my grandmothers favorite hymn. She sung it almost everyday, whether it were when she was by herself, or even with company around. My family and I sang this song at her and my grandfathers funeral. Whenever I hear someone sing this song, I always think of her. I loved her so much because of how much support she gave me with the dreams I want to pursue. How exciting it is to be face-to-face with the Lord! The rest of us patiently wait for this day! Both of those songs are beautiful truths that you have shared at your funeral. I myself have had cancer as a child, and I got my master of divinity in clinical counselling so I could be a chaplain/ spiritual care provider in the hospital. My training was in the inpatient oncology unit. But, Covid ended my training a couple months early (no students were allowed in the hospital for a year or so.) I hope to recover from long Covid soon so I can go back to ministering to these patients.

I cry every time. I have a 2 year old granddaughter who sings it. I have to hide because I don't want to confuse her, but how can a 2 year old sing this whole hymn with words she hasn't heard in tune and so amazing. Such a gift to me.
