I am greatly impressed that Tantara Records, the copyright owners of this video (located on BYU campus) are alright with the video being posted. I would recommend everyone buy the DVD. It has some great music on it.
Available at www.TantaraReco... The BYU Combined Choruses sing "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" arranged by Mack Wilberg from the album "A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns" (© Tantara Records). I would encourage everyone to buy the DVD or CD, even if just for this song. You can get them at www.TantaraReco...

Interesting. I lost a close friend to a motorcycle accident at a way too young age. This was one of his favorite hymns and they played it at his service. I listen to it periodically and it brings his memory up. But it's more than that too. There's a patience and exalting feel to this song to where I feel almost in total reverie when I listen to it. The original composition is as perfect a song that exists. This arrangement somehow lifts it even higher. When I'm carried away by this song I think of how blessed I am and how wonderful the earth and the life that dwells in it is. We're all so fortunate to have this song in our lives.

Mary - I understand. My husband passed away eleven years ago. I feel him with me with music. We loved music & dancing. He would have loved this performance. My best friend is Morman. We grew up Presbyterians & sing this hymn often - this way. We joined the United Methodist Church, because of pressure from friends, and so many hymns are sung differently.

I have been in Baptist church music as vocalist, pianist and organist for over 60 years and have never, ever heard a more beautiful or worshipful arrangement of this lovely old hymn. I've listened to it numerous times and it still brings me to tears and makes me worship. So uplifting. It's just incredible ! The tempo, orchestral accompaniment and arrangement are perfect. The arranger Mack Wilburg has earned himself numerous crowns to lay at the feet of Jesus in Heaven. WOW ! Gorgeous!

I was born a Baptist and raised a Baptist. My great-uncle was an outstanding Baptist minister and a very good man. He wanted me to be a minister and attend Southern Baptist University. It is time we loved each other as Christ asked us to. Put away hate, rankor, callousness, and replace it with charity, kind words, peace, love and understanding. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over 34 years ago and have never regretted that decision. I have a testimony.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love. Here I raise my Ebenezer; Here by Thy great help I’ve come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood; PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE. O to grace how great a debtor Daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee. PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.

I have to say that I do not believe in the Book of Mormon at all, but if you are not moved by this then you just don't have a soul. People, stop arguing theology because no one is going to read your comment and then change their entire outlook on life anyway. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy this master piece of beauty. If you were in this choir or orchestra and you are reading this, my God that was amazing! Thank you so much for your hard work in doing that.

But in all my years of going to Church and listening to hymns of worship since childhood, I have never heard a more magical song that inspires and uplifts my heart in so many ways. I'm sure there are other people who feels this way and now, I just wish I could have paid more attention to Church and had more chances of listening to these songs. The term “Mormon” has lately been clarified to refer strictly to an ancient prophet by that name and to the book of scripture he abridged. Consequently, there is no such thing as “Mormon music”, “Mormons”, “Mormon Church”, and so on. The people who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are now known not by the retired nickname, but as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It may be a mouthful, but it’s accurate.

I was shown this video in a philosophy class at Ricks college in 1999 during a discussion of aesthetics. It was so impactful to me personally, but it has also had a tremendous impact on the style of choir in the Church as a whole in promoting Mack Wilberg and his influence. I have wanted to ask someone who was there performing or in the audience what it was like. Was it obvious from the power of this performance the impact it would have? I’m not exaggerating, if I could time travel this would be high on the list for me as a moment to experience.

C.S. Lewis pointed out that it is far too easy for us to assume that only the very serious things of life are approved by God. But in God's economy, where so much is upside down, even things that look frivolous, unimportant, wasteful, or playful can be important when they are attached to the joy found in the heart of God's character.

OK, most people are going to say, "you can get back up, keep on trucking", but they can't have empathy for something of that level. Not a day goes by that I don't consider suicide and how the world was created, in my own words "Damned are those who think". My words are, Jesus didn't die for us to keep beating on ourselves, when he lived he was completely human and God, knew the temptations and had emotions. Because of this connection, he knows everything, and he died to save the world from death

There are too many people out there who do not believe in Christ, that think it's okay to drink, use drugs, watch awful movies, to lie a little, to be unkind. They need your attention much more. At least mormons help others...that is the MOST important way to follow Christ and they donate and help people around the world and pray for others and do the best they can. You should focus your energy on where it can help. You really should pray and ask God in what ways you can help. Good luck.

O, to Grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be, indeed!

My choir along with the rest of my school's district's choirs sand this in a concert less than an hour ago. I'm sad to say that we somewhat butchered the piece. As a soprano 1 (the highest part in a SATB choir) in an audition-based district, I can honestly tell you that the last note of the song resembled the pitch of death. I'm only in a high school choir, so of course the higher notes wont sound so professional, but I'm still disappointed at the level of mistakes we managed in this beautiful piece. There was no real need to post this, but I needed it off my chest.

Please don't feel bad. I'm sure you did the best you could, and that the Lord heard what was in your heart. If there is any fault, it lies with your director, because there are a whole bunch of arrangements of this song, and obviously he or she didn't pick the right one to match your choir.

+Anthony Dawson I just read your comment. I didn't sing in high school chorus nor in college. I'm sure your choir did the best they could. I'm sure your audience felt the meaning of the song and that's what matters. Now about this chorus. This chorus and orchestra is noted as one of the best college choirs and orchestra's in the world and have people who could have attended Julliard and other major music institutions. (I know this because I was once very close to a young woman who sang in this choir and she told me about her and some of the other students and mentors stories.) And when you're in High School your still young and your voices haven't had the training nor the physical maturity to sing like this. We in the Mormon Church have an inspired saying about music, sort of a proverb. "The song of the righteous is a prayer unto me and shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads." Combine that with the words of a popular song when I was young made famous by the great Karen Carpenter "Dont' worry that its not good enough for anyone else to hear. Just sing! Sing a song!" Keep practicing and singing and you will be blessed and all of those who hear you will be blessed too.

John S. I commend you for standing up on LDS Faith even though you are not a member of LDS Faith. You sound like one already. I invited you to read the Book of Mormon and examine it as we all Christians examine the Bible and pray if it is the word of God. If you are sincere, you will know this to be true by the witness Of God through his holly spirit and the facts in that book that cannot be denied to be true. hence it will be your decision to act and Exercise your Faith to follow Christ and be Baptized in the True CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST in these latter days, and be partakers of Gods Grace with the saints that bares his names. I stand boldly as a witness of Christ and Invite all men to Come unto him and be partakers of his salvation. I'm a Mormon. I know it is the true church. I Love the fulness of the Gospel and strive to live Gods word each day. We are the latter days that has been prophesied in the Bible that should be stablished upon the earth pertaining to new Jerusalem before the coming of Christ. Prove that the Book of Mormon is false then this church will not stand at the last days and our latter day prophets must be tried and tested as a false prophets in our days. Read the Book of Mormon and know it for yourself and ask God if it is not true, and he will tell you in your heart the truth of this things. Come unto Christ all ye ends of the earth.

Hello! I'm a Christian too and I was always told that Mormons are not real Christians so do you mind answering me some questions? Do you believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation and that we cannot be saved by our own doings and redemption is only found if we believe in Jesus and ask him for forgiveness? Do you believe to be the only true church? Do you have a different Translation of the bible? Is the book of Mormon equal to the bible for you? What about this pologamy thing that i heard of? I would be very happy if you answer me those questions because I'm very interested and I do want to believe that you are my brothers and sisters. :D

***** of course! We love answering questions :) we do believe that it is only through the grace of Christ that we can be saved. Because He died for us and suffered for our sins we can be forgiven and resurrected. As a church, we believe that other religions have a lot of truth and offer many good things, however we have the Priesthood and believe that we are the only church who has power to act with God's authority. Christ is at the head of the Church and it is Him that we worship :) as for the Bible, we read the King James Version-the foundation for the various more modern translations of the Bible. The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, testifies of Jesus Christ and his mission and teachings. As such, we believe the Bible and the Book of Mormon both to be inspired books of scripture that teaches principles that will bring us closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. Polygamy isn't practiced in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, nor has it been in a very long time. I hope this has been able to answer some of your questions! I truly do know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that He loves us. Through Him we can be forgiven and have Eternal life if we will follow the path He set for us to obtain it--that is, but partaking of His grace and following His example. I bear testimony of these things in Jesus' name, amen.

ldsgirl1 How would you reconcile Galatians 1:8? "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." This is exactly what the Book of Mormon is...accursed. It was supposedly delivered by an angel and came after the Bible. According to the Bible, any additional gospel or testament of Christ is accursed.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doesn't use the cross as a symbol of their Christianity because they put more emphasis on the life and resurrection of the Savior. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the cross, but as a church we like to focus more on his teachings, his example, and his atonement for the sins of all mankind, which includes his great suffering in the garden of Gethsemane as well as on the cross. Hope that answers your question.

@citizensnetskyfish - The LDS Church does not preach hate for anyone, but rather tolerance and the belief that God loves everyone unconditionally and we should too. You're mixing up maintaining God's moral standards against homosexuality with your own belief that it is okay. LDS believe it to be an abomination, as the scriptures teach. LDS believe in loving the sinner, not the sin, and that protecting the family structure is God's will and in society's best interests.

Stanza three seems to be a forecast of his later life, when he lapsed into sin. There is a well-known story of Robinson, riding a stagecoach with a lady who was deeply engrossed in a hymnbook. Seeking to encourage him, she asked him what he thought of the hymn she was humming. Robinson burst into tears and said, "Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then."

The statement in stanza two, "Here I raise my Ebenezer" refers to I Samuel 7:12, "Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the LORD has helped us." Ebenezer is the Hebrew for "Stone of Help." Israel had suffered defeat because of its sin. But the people had repented of their sin, God had helped them and they were victorious. Samuel placed the stone to remind Israel that God had them, their victory was because of Him.

This song's lyrics is set to the tune of "Fantasia on Nettelton" which is an old New England Folk Hymn. I played the song in a flute trio for Solo and Ensemble back during my middle school years. Back then, the song had no real meaning to me other than the fact that I was captivated by it's beauty while playing it. Now that I'm a Mormon, it has so much a deeper meaning after getting acquainted with this counterpart. It's by far my favorite song to play on flute!
