Come with me around the Tarland Skyline and up the first hills of the year | Broom Hill & Pressendye

I mostly picked out this route because it involved the beech tree avenues around Tarland and I've been meaning to visit those for ages. The hills were just a bonus, which is why I hadn't really looked at them beyond a brief look at the height and ascent! The first hour or so was along country roads, which isn't my favourite, but once we got off the tarmac things felt a lot more interesting. We could see snow on the nearby mountains and I got to eye up one of my targets for this year, Morven. The cairn at the top is probably a modern cairn which has been built on top of and using the stones of an old and robbed burial cairn. The way down from Pressendye and back into Tarland goes through the Tarland Trails which is a series of mountain biking tracks. We felt perfectly safe sharing the hill and unless it's insanely busy or you're particularly unaware I don't think there's much risk of getting in the way. Tarland has a lovely cafe, a little shop for refreshments and two pubs (of which I've only tried one).
Favourite sightings of the day were the five hares and the red kite. :)
