Hello Emma, very well done, looks like you had fun putting the swap together. Regarding the differences between your and Claire's Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma, I have gone down the rabbit-hole of RT tissue culture vs. non-tissue culture (stem cuttings, seed cultivation). What I have taken away from all the available info I could find is: they are the same plant, because tissue culture is "cloning" however, they may differ considerably in appearance, that may be due to many variables, e.g.; maturity, soil medium and growing conditions (light, humidity etc.). Tissue cultures are very fast growing, like human children. As the plant gets older, the appearance can change a lot, like kids. The new TC has delicate, tender leaves and tends to vine as it matures. The leaves will eventually toughen up and thicken and begin to fenestrate, although they sometimes unfurl looking U-G-L-Y (like teenagers in the awkward stage), at least mine has and does, and I think it is a TC. Most non RT TC are from cuttings, so a cutting is usually more mature to begin with, not as fast growing (because it is already mature, right?) and produces more fenestrated leaves, although non-tissue culture RT produce juvenile leaves as well. From what I have researched, the growth pattern of the tissue culture will eventually start to behave like the non-TC as it matures, but I have seen on-line debates, or arguments, about that point. However, I STILL have questions. If a cutting is taken from a TC, will it eventually start to look like a non TC as it ages? Also, have all RT tissue cultures originated from one single plant, company, like trademark rights, or are there several companies that tissue culture them? Perhaps the differences are due to the genetics of the particular plant that has been cloned? I haven't found an answer to that yet. Anybody know?
@jaclynns.jungle2 жыл бұрын
You're correct. The TC tetrasperma appears different, usually smaller and more delicate leaves!

ahhh that would make sense. So mine is probably TC & Claire's is nonTC??
@tinapomfrey54122 жыл бұрын
@@GoodGrowing, I don't know; maybe, it looks that way to me, no? I'm no expert and as I said, I have questions that haven't been answered by the info available on the internet. I would like to acquire a bona fide, non TC, not only to compare the tangible similarities/differences to speak more concretely on the subject, but also because I really just find this kind of stuff fascinating and its probably the fundamental reason why my interest in plants has been constant from a really young age. Yep, plant nerd right here. If I ever find a true non TC, I will let you know. I've had some difficulty finding one because a lot of the retailers here in the States don't even know if they sell TC or not, and I'm not willing to spend money on something I already have because I own too many plants already!

Loved watching this 😍 would definitely want to experience a plant swap event 💚 also the difference in the raphidophora tetrasperma might be because of one being a tissue culture plant. Differences show up in the leaf shape and the placement of the fenestrations. Thank you 🥰
