This video prompted me to downsize more and give away or sell some plants that just aren’t bringing me joy anymore. So relatable, thanks for sharing your downsizing too!

That's a coincidence because I just thought about downsizing my own collection this afternoon. And I said the same thing that my plants are getting bigger and taking up way too much room. Great minds think alike. 😁

It took me from 2020 to now (2024) to get down from 250 down to 41. It was a conscious slow process, but I’m glad I did. With ADHD, 250 was too many thoughts and I lost some favorite plants because I couldn’t see them in the forest 🌳 ❤ Edit: this is exactly what it looked/felt like 🤘 #relatable

I need to downsize for this reason, I want to go slowly and consciously but am also so overwhelmed 😭 i’m struggling to find interest locally in the ones I’ve tried to sell in my local BST Group. I gift plants to my friends but don’t want to give them some of my projects. Also obsessed with not wanting to “waste my investment” by tossing it. Any advice? What worked for you? 😭

I used Keiki paste on the bare bones of my hoya compacta… they’re both fully leaved now!! Try that on your bare vines! What’s “a good shout” mean? A good decision? I end up throwing a few props out, if I’m not filling out my big plant and have no one to give them too, or worth selling, I’ll let them go

I think we all have to be realistic in our spaces and in our time frames. I love plants. I really do but I also love my sanity in what I can maintain in each room. Every room I have I wanna feel relaxed and the plants in that room are their own focal points. Working and life in general is so stressful I cannot come home to a space that is overflowing in my hobby it makes time at home another stress that gives me anxiety. Maybe put all your small cacti into one planter and make a little desert scene. I get varigated Aspidistra's from "Plant Delights Nursery,Inc." they have such a huge selection of Cast Iron plants I do not know if they ship to your area but you might have a friend in the US who could order it for you to their location and then ship it to you. II dont want this to come across badly but I think for your own sake you need to reclaim your own personal space a little with your dresser and such so its not so overwhelming. Take care. 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴

I always have fungus gnats, my cat loves chasing them, but 1.5 months ago, I found mealies, spider mites and 1 thrip, treated my whole collection, took 2.5 days, 3 days ago found an infestation of green aphids, white flies, and more mealies…. Been treating and cleaning for the last 3 days, sigh… fall… however, I decided to purge some that aren’t getting the love they need, or that were completely infested, and reorganized my whole collection, now, I feel refreshed! The preventative mister I used obvs is ineffective, so I need a new “in between” treatment preventative recipe 150 is my comfort level too, just counted, I’ve got 148 ;) but like you said, they’re growing! So I’ll have to downsize more as the favs get mature! Most I’ve got now have been on my wishlist, but whether it’s the lack of ease of care, or they don’t grow as expected or appreciated, some get taken off that list right?

Thank you for sharing this process! It is so relatable! I have been downsizing/rehoming plants again for the past half year… and before that I had to do it bigtime once before.. What helps me downsize are several things (similar to how you are doing it): - a number/amount in my mind that I find reasonable to take care of - clearing off all surfaces and “redecorating” only with what looks peaceful, where do I want plants.. and how does it look good (and then putting the remainder all in one place to reevaluate) - deciding if a plant still brings joy - determining if I can give the plant what it needs (not everything works well in everyones home) - asking myself if I would want it again if I saw someone else growing that plant - not propagating for fictional people (or for the sake of propagating), only propagating to make plants fuller (Theres probably more which is currently slipping my mind) Also such a good idea to join the things that can be joined right away! It saves so much (head)space I reallo love how that peperomia in the cloche looks in between the vining plants

Oh Emma 😢 my plants grew & didn’t want to downsize 😮 so added an space to greenhouse (double size) because I love my jungle! But I am with you, I understand this & should move things around & if things don’t change 😮 just open the door to let go & find what works for you 😊 you tried and just keep trying 😊 we all are into this hobby ❤

Great video Emma, addressing the fact that plants grow, bravo. That is where I am, and chopping up plants to restart them that are two meters high plus….a challenge ! And keeping the big leaves clean, yes is another necessary chore!

the more I watched this, the more plants came to mind, that aren't making me happy either, So I can see I will be creating quite a bit of space on my shelves and in my cabinet. I am So glad I watched this video. You really inspired a lot of us I think. I can see you cutting back more, but this time, maybe only a plant or two at a time. I'm sure anyone that takes your plants will be very Happy with them.

OMG!! 😂😂😂 You gave me 💪. Thank you so very much! I paused you midway and went on a declutter spree. Boy, did I declutter. 😂😂😂 I don't have any friends or family that are into plants like I am. I hang on to them all because I have nowhere to send them. To the bin they went. 😂😂😂😂
Hi iv been watching your videos for ever love watching them I'm in Newmarket and enjoy everything 😊

I'd like to make a suggestion for the decursiva: try treating it as a crawler ;) I don't know why nearly all online sources claim it's a climber and that it needs a moss pole, when all evidence from growing the plant say otherwise. I got a cutting 2 years ago, it took forever to root in water and start growing. I fully expected the first leaf to be juvenile, but it had the same number of slits as the original cutting, 3 on each side. Even when planted in a regular pot, it wasn't reaching up but rather grew horizontally. Moving it into a long planter and giving it a prime light spot made the leaves grow larger immediately. Well, not exactly, since it's still a fairly slow grower, but with the next leaf :)

Watching these kinds of vids help me reduce the numbers on my wishlist, I’m sure I’d have similar issues so decide not to get it anymore, eg. Martianum My Micans has never liked me for some reason, put a cut of my decursiva on a plank 2 yrs ago, she’s climbing! The other cutting I made and the mother I sold, 1 more cutting home that’s crawling 🤷♀️ slow grower, would’t rebuy, I’m with you on the lil cacti, not my bag, I love the epiphytes and forest cacti that grow big, I have a 4 foot tall euphorbia rubria (African milk tree) and 3 forest cacti I adore I just fully grew out a couple boys and sold them, I like watching stuff grow too, but after I’ve had that positive experience I tend to let them go to better homes after, move onto the next. I love combining similar plants too. I’m not a pepperomia, syngoniums nor calethea etc fan either

Agree, the good news is when our plants flourish. Bad news some of them take up to much space when they grow 😀🇨🇦
@Mandi_HuiАй бұрын
I think sometimes when your home feels cluttered and not organised the way you want it. You can feel stressed same with plants when they look all bunch up together taking up so much space doesn’t look neat. Especially when you have props too. Also is good to plant multiple of same plants together. I feel aroids that needs a pole they can take up your home too.

I gave away over 50 succulents to my friend. I got over succulents for the most part and totally feel ya. Now I’m onto vining plants it seems. Believe it or not, the humble pothos has taken over my heart. I’ve been getting variegated plants and very variegated pothos so they grow slow but look interesting. That’s my solution to what was my problem with space ha ha. I am going to attempt the Aeonium kiwi again. There is a special place in my heart for the tiny aeoniums. They’re so cute!! But a pain to grow inside. >< Dracaena Milk Way is close to a cast iron look and has very similar care needs and it looks beautiful and you know I’ll grow slow and won’t get massive fast. If that’s in your area, perhaps it would work for you?

With the martianum I wonder if it is a hybrid, because my black cardinal went from having fat petioles to skinny when it switched to cataphyll. And now it wants to climb, the aerial roots a shooting off. And the black cardinal is a hybrid of self heading and climbing philodendrons, so maybe you have the same with your martianum?
