I am a career Banker and can say the situation was unnecessarily escalated. The client was trying to discreetly withdraw a large sum of cash which is NOT unusual. Ryan was NOT wrong. Businesses and individuals withdraw large sums of cash all of the time without police response. That teller was just being extra and careless because she didn't even really read the note. Of course Ryan was wearing a mask and to insinuate his appearance insinuated possible or probable criminal intent is dangerous. The Bank should have assigned a Private Banker who would handle something like that for Ryan and by the same token with his wealth and celebrity Ryan should demand privacy when conducting his bank business.

I'm not a celebrity. I went in boa to cash a 6500$ check. I did not go to the teller. I went to the desk of someone whose title was wealth management. She was a black woman. Im a bw. She was very rude an impolite but asked me to have a seat while she took care of the check. I knew what that meant. She was verifying it. Bout 20 minutes later she came back with the biggest smile. Like she had just hit a blunt. Handed me my cash and tried to sell me banking products. I took my funds and politely left. I would have never gone to a regular teller for that type of money. I know it's enough legitimate racism without trying to set people up. I hope that's not what some of these cases turn out to be.

I had to sit with the manager and he had the nerve to tell me that the food wasn’t good there and they don’t do business with Cuba. What does that have to do with me and the money I earn waking up at 5am??? Them mother fathers froze my account while I was on my cruise and I had to tell them when I was back to unfreeze my account. I had another credit card but still NO institution should have control over YOUR money. Needless to say I closed that account.

It’s not his fault at all. He handed her the note with TWO forms of ID. She didn’t do her job, nor did the manager. As a former banker, we would get plenty of people that would pass us notes. One because of disability reasons, and two to be discreet or to specify what they needed. When going through teller training, they take you through the protocol for being rob. Firstly, if she thought she was trying being robbed, why would she walk away? That could have put many people in danger had a true robber pulled out a weapon. Also, I worked in BoA at Peachteee Battle in Buckhead and plenty of people of people can in need large withdrawals. We would take them into the safety deposit area to count their cash to them. This was just fuckery.

Facts! You made it plain. When I was a teller we were trained if you are getting robbed just give them the money and if possible wait til they leave then lock the doors and push your panic alarm that way you try to avoid a hostage situation. She just walked off and left him there. What was she thinking. What robber just waits patiently for you to call the cops?! Ryan wasn't wrong. I've had customers as you stated who've passed me notes because of disability reasons and because of large withdrawals. As a customer myself I've gone into banks during the pandemic with my mask and passed the teller a note stating how I want my money back. I removed my mask and the tellers verified me. The news just surfaced on my phone this morning about this incident. He actually did nothing wrong. He filled out a withdrawal slip but wrote on the back to please count money elsewhere, he wanted to be discreet. I withdrew a large amount a few weeks ago and asked for a private room to count, they didn’t have one so she had to count it at the desk. I was so uncomfortable but luckily I was the only one in line at the time. I’m team Ryan all the way! Bank tellers stupidity not his.

I'm so tired of people telling black people they need to do a costume change before going out doors and going places. We can't wear hoodies, shoes, flip flops, colored hair, lipstick, underwear for someone to accuse of us of being who we are not. Let's be clear, the note told her what to be discreet about, he had a withdrawal slip, his ID, card, pin card. At this point it didn't matter what he had on or what he did if she wasn't going to do her job anyway.

An embarrassing mistake for this Sister, the Police, the Manager on duty and the Bank. Difficult lessons learned. Next time, 1. Take a minute to think, take the time to follow Bank identify procedures, 2. get a second opinion (so if things go bad you can blame your Boss), 3.
