I want y’all to know that there are SO MANY of us who have lived similar lives. I’m 71. My daughter was born on November 4, 1970. My mother was addicted to meth when it was referred to as “Mother’s Little Helper” and MD prescribed. Mother had horrible insomnia (gee, I wonder why). She obsessed over weight-everyone’s weight. I am best friends with my label maker. My panties are organized by type and color. I can’t get rid of stuff easily. I was also molested and carry weight so I’m not rape bait. However, I do succeed in relationships. Hubby and I have been married over 50 years and moved in together in 1971. So, I’m not completely fucked up. I was incredibly successful in my profession. My love to you both!

I was prescribed Adderall 24 yrs ago when I was in college. I don’t like to think that I’m addicted to it.. I actually take less of it than it prescribed, since there is an Adderall shortage and it’s hard to get the prescription filled I don’t like to go too long without having it, but it just dawned on me, am I gonna be filling this prescription when I’m 70 years old? And what does that look like? 🤦🏼♀

@@HH-gv8mxi have the fear that one day, they’ll just completely get rid of it or the shortage will be so bad, I won’t have any. This newer fear has really got me thinking about attempting to taper off. Apparently, like 80% of our meds are manufactured in china so what would stop them from just ceasing ? I know it probably sounds far fetched or conspiracy theory like, but it does weigh on me.
@reencampbell44815 ай бұрын
I’ve heard so many stories of older women who became dependent or addicted to these meds after being prescribed for so many years. While every mother has an insane amount of responsibilities and tasks, i cant imagine the stress on women back then…. The need to be perfect - the perfect wife, the perfect mother, the perfect daughter… neighbor, church member, PTA member…all while appearing perfect in a beautiful dress and well coiffed hair and nail… just thinking of the pressure makes my heart race. You sound like an extremely strong woman who has fought hard to overcome the hand you were dealt. I am so happy that you have found a true partner in life. It makes even the hardest fight a little easier. 💚
@HH-gv8mx5 ай бұрын
@@reencampbell4481 when we were in a shortage, I couldn’t get mine filled for quite a few months. I did a lot of research on this and read a lot of articles that were coming out at the time and heard about it on the news. Apparently they make most of these drugs in Israel for some reason, but they are starting to manufacture a lot of them here, but I do know that there is no reason that we should be in a shortage there’s a lot of literature out there on the legislation of it all. But I do find it very disruptive to your daily life when you cannot get the medicine you need. In this type of medication shouldn’t just be cut off suddenly.

I too grew up with a mom with an ED. Child of divorce too. I remember binge eating as a young child at other peoples houses. Now we have different types of healthy eating verses the 80’s. My mom now works with holistic doctors for her food choices. And has gotten food sensitivity tests which has put her ED to a whole new level in her 70’s 😳😱 holiday gatherings at her house are what I call the food no fun zone. I’m also in Al-Anon and the similarities between alcoholism and ED’s are wild.
@mrssolomon31272 ай бұрын
Ppl REALLY do not understand food addiction. My mil is anorexic and I had to go to a psychiatrist in order to understand it. Hubby is firm in denial as is she. Why is she passing out?!?!? Why does she have no energy and stay in bed for 2 weeks?!?!? Why is she CONSTANTLY having "health problems" ?!?!? It is bc she doesn't eat or drink water/beverages. I'll never forget asking the psych "why doesn't she drink water? It has no calories!" Dr said it's bc she doesn't want to feel full and WANTS to feel EMPTY bc it's all about control. So sad. I feel so bad for her but def know now I can't save her.

Wow I’m so happy I watched this it was surprisingly healing as someone with a bad eating disorder (anorexia & bulimia) from age 16-21. I’m 25 now and still get triggered into it sometimes which really stinks but it’s rare. I’ll not be triggered for months or even a year and then it’s like a feeling inside that triggers me to purge. I pray that it fully goes away for good I just need to have more strength and willpower.

I had this pattern myself. As a girl, abused by a female babysitter. Struggled with eating issues beginning in high school and continuing into my early 20s. So crazy how trauma manifests. I'm probably technically overweight now, but I don't binge and still struggle about my body. I remember Whitney from Chelsea Lately. Love her. Great interview Bethanny! ❤😊
