As a daughter of a strict mom, i’m so thankful that my mom was strict and not the other way around! I was definitely NOT allowed to watch rated R movies or wear makeup when I was 13 or wear bikinis at the pool. The girls in my class whose parents did let them get perms, wear makeup and tight clothes and bikinis starting at such a young age, also had sex at a way younger age.

Not letting your 13-year-old walk the streets alone is not being strict. It’s being smart. Not letting your 13-year-old watch rated R movies or wear make up or have social media accounts and placing priority on school homework and sports activities is more along the lines of being a strict parent.

Kids these days are far, far ❤ more sensible then most of us were with our 80s/90s wild child experience with drugs, sex, rock & roll. I loved this! The reason I know how to clean efficiently and well is because my Mama taught me. It taught me to appreciate and enjoy my space. Every so often I would rearrange my room and decorate, put up new posters. I see so many people that don’t know how to mend a shirt. Write a thank you note. Thank you notes were very important in my home. I was taught to address company. I didn’t look at my Mama as strict. It was the 70s and 80s. I just knew I could not go skating on Saturday night till my chores were done. So I knocked it out. That is still how I live today. She worked part time at a Super Dollar Store. Often I would hang out there and help. She taught me how to count change. I am so grateful for Mama. She’s been gone 33 years now.
