That's so cool. I love the old Hollywood version of Six Degrees of separation/Kevin Bacon. They showed "Safety Last" at an older theatre near me last year, brought in a guy who played the Wurlitzer (!! ❤️) and also Harold Lloyd's granddaughter was a guest for an after show Q&A! She had so many cool stories of being at her grandad's estate, it was huge and a great place to visit as a child. Got to love the classics❤

Having spent plenty time in China I can relate to some of this story and philosophy. The overt racism was harsh, abrasive, but true to the times (and hasn't changed much IMHO). I've always been a BIG fan of Harold Lloyd and thought I'd seen all his movies (this one by his own production company) but missed this somehow. And I wouldn't have appreciated it as much if I hadn't spent all those years in China. Poignant look at the politics of an American city in the 1930's. 💖 🇨🇦

@@Tempe1962 Doesn't look like it, looking closely I think that is real skin. The Hays code was technically in effect at this point but this was the year it was first strictly enforced because it's the Year Tarzan and his Mate came out. There were scenes in that where, well let's just say you could see all of Jane. And that movie was pretty much the last straw and they started enforcing the Hays code strictly, this movie obviously came out right before that.

Joseph Finnegan, how sophisticated many movies were before the second big war, WWII. Suggests something about the audiences too. Now we have people so blinded by some sort of derangement syndrome that they do not perceive the blatant attempts at worldwide power grabs and have supported destroying the world in hopes of ousting one guy. Just recently the WHO special envoy remarked that measures taken are doubling world poverty and with it child hunger. Such consequences do not concern the wannabe dictators, narcissistic personalities with an insatiable desire for control, or the minions of money power.

Ah ! This exposes American politics. The problem is the number of this type of "Hero Missionary" is getting less & less in America, on the contrary corrupted high official as "Commissioner- Moriarty" is on the rise. Most of the public representatives are just pet doggies of the super-rich business magnets. The common people are just fooled to understand that America is a heaven, it is a matter of great shame that the common people of America have forgot John Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln and other such great people who once lead America. This type of movies are just jewels, they are just like good books which injects knowledge of right and wrong.

Entertaining movie but it just gets added to the pile of films that prove that Hollywood producers couldn't get anything right about Christianity if a gun was put to their heads. Christian missionaries travel all over the world to teach salvation through faith in Christ. A missionary's son would likely learn to speak Chinese, the country's customs, and learn something of Confucius, but his source of wisdom would be the bible, not Chinese philosophers. As for a Christian's search for a wife, he would restrict himself to look for a Christian woman. The movie could have easily made the character the son of an American merchant, and that would have eliminated some of the discrepancies.

Amazing that you need to force feed other cultures your own lack of one and spread your mental illness called religion to people who don’t want it. All missionaries should be arrested and sent out of the country spot on. I meet a lot of them in Sri Lanka, pretending their religion was in need in a country already full of religion way before their own stupid one was made up in USA by a scammer.

@@christianfrommuslim shopping one mental illness for an other is nothing you need to brag about. It’s very sad. 😢

@@bokhans My, aren't you open-minded and tolerant? Deport everyone who doesn't agree with you? Rather, why not spend your time to look at the teachings of the various religions and compare their documents? They are not all the same. Only Christianity has a God who reaches down in love to save us from the hurtful world that surrounds us, and our own ill deeds.
