Comedy Unleashed, Graham Linehan, Scottish Parliament, August 17 2023 Edinburgh Fringe

Comedy Unleashed "Edgy Comedy is Back!" at the Edinburgh Fringe. Following two cancellations from venues that were to host the gig, the event organisers decided to perform outdoors at the Scottish Parliament Building. The original venue cancelled when the staff learned that Graham Linehan was scheduled to perform. Much media attention was given to this "cancellation".
Apologies for the sketchy camerawork. I am struggling with some physical issues from surgery and my bus was an hr late, missing the beginning, and a bit of a faff to get the camera organised. Glad to have got there to document and support. Free speech is important, and so is comedy.
The comedians scheduled to perform were Mary Bourke, Dominic Frisby, Alistair Williams and a surprise guest revealed to be Linehan, with the MC Bruce Devlin.

The other comedians staying silent on this, or even cheering on the cancellation of Graham, seem to be completely unaware that if the politics of the country change (which they're apt to do), they will in time be the ones silenced because of their political views, and their enemies will be the ones cheering. Can people really not grasp something so basic? The counterargument I see them use is "Graham's views (or anyone I disagree with) are akin to calling for violence or genocide or a vulnerable minority being 'mandated out of existence' " I.e., they liken their political opponents to nazis or racists, basically. And therefore silencing such views is a necessity. Apparently totally oblivious to the fact that gender critical views are a belief protected by law. Vilified for defending women's rights ..... by (some) women. How times have changed.
