I think he genuinely likes Michael, though. On some level, at least Michael is the one thing nobody else in a corporate environment it: totally authentic. And he somehow succeeds while being that way. We see later that David kind of wanted to be like that, too. And I think that's a big part of why he liked the guy. He saw what he wanted to be even though he didn't have the courage.

I always thought it was brilliant that they came up with the idea that the Scranton branch, against all odds, was somehow very successful. It is at least some kind of reason why someone like Michael would be allowed to keep his job. It really is a key to the series. My idea is that Michael is so hung up on things other than work and annoying his workers that they focus even MORE on their work to avoid him and try to make up for his time wasting. Add that to the fact that people like Dwight and Jim are actually good salesmen.
@ebobby11366 ай бұрын
Michael Scott is also a a pretty good salesman. Don’t forget the Michael Scott paper company back in its hay day
@himanshurajdev24125 ай бұрын
I know he has his problems. But Michael is better than those bosses (like charles) who want you to stay till late, not have relationships with employees basically not have a life. At least he wants the workplace to be a family and employees to have a life outside of work. And maybe this positively impacts employees’ mental health and hence their performance.
@joeconcepts55525 ай бұрын
@@himanshurajdev2412 Like remember Jo asked Michael if he thinks he put in a good day’s work, then he can leave. And Michael said yes. He is definitely better than those bosses who think your job should be your whole life.

But actually he only hired Michael (who is a very good salesman) and Ryan. Maybe Jan, but she was completely normal before she went downward spiral after her divorce. Think of it Ryan was also very normal before being in corporate. Deangelo and Robert California got there after Sabre purchased DM. The only "weirdo" was Dwight at the end of the series.
@micahbush53976 ай бұрын
@@PrmtvStudio Michael was at Dunder Mifflin long before David Wallace. He hired Ryan (who proved to be a fraud who did little more than spout buzzwords) and Charles Miner (who was a completely different person in front of David and was a terrible judge of what people were good at, given that he made Kevin the receptionist and Stanley the "productivity czar"), then was taken in by Robert California's obviously fake "charity," and he put Andy in charge of the Scranton branch and was completely oblivious to his three-month absence.
