More children’s toy commercials should start with a man casually smoking a cigarette.

For anyone who does not understand why this is such a loved piece this is what I gathered from this and this is why it impacts me. It’s supposed to be shot in an anti drug psa format in order to transfer the marketing strategy they use on kids to show adults the psychological impact that the simple words made by toy companies have on children. He adds the subliminal messaging at the points that in a child’s commercial would cut to the core just by the words being said. You take out all the imagery and sudden sounds and then play that audio to a child a child will have the same reaction as a parent would with all the additive effects because children’s minds are developing and they don’t know how to process simple a statement that counters everything their parents tell them. They tell them they aren’t a baby anymore and that since they poop and pee on their own that they aren’t a baby and then here comes a toy company saying hey, your parents lied to you, you need to have this to prove that you aren’t a baby. That sets the early mode that they can’t trust their parents because their parents don’t know what a kid needs to prove to other kids that they aren’t still a baby but the corporations do so venerate them and dump your money into their brand.

The combination of what's happening before this in the show and this commercial makes it a fucking masterpiece. Nathan makes it so they actually believe that he would show this to a bunch of kids. The kids manipulation in this episode is incredible, but it shows the cracks in kids understanding of mind twists in commercials. "You MUST have it, otherwise other kids will be laughing at you". It might not be true, but it is a scary possibility for little kids. Nathan is a fucking genius
