Robert Smalls also founded the Republican Party in SC, made education a top priority and legislated for it to be free and compulsory. He was far more than the 6 minutes major celebrity Kevin Hart has given him, although I’m glad someone is talking about him. He should have a statue at the Capitol in SC and DC.

They need a statue in the south tbh or his own coin. As founding father of American democracy, AFTER the civil war.

Kevin has such a great voice for this. He would do great recording comedy audiobooks.
@LazyIRanch3 жыл бұрын
Yes, he would! He'd also be great recording funny children's books, and there are many good ones. I wish they'd bring back "Reading Rainbow" that starred Levar Burton. Keep Levar, but have a guest reader every episode, like Kevin Hart, James Gaffigan, etc. I would totally watch that, and I'm 60 with no grandchildren!

I love this story of Robert Smalls so much, have read about it before but Kevin Hart just makes it better. I used to have a tiny but brave goat named "Smalls". He came with that name, named after a character in the movie, "The Sandlot", but since he was brave, handsome, and black, to me he was named for this "Smalls". My goat fought off a dog attack, saved his offspring and his ladies lives by leading the dog away although he was severely injured. After the vet stitched him back up, I gave him to a friend who lives in a safer place (I thought). Poor Smalls was killed a month ago by a mountain lion, along with his 3 other goat buddies but I bet he fought to the end like the brave little hero he was.

"Smalls wrote to U.S. Senator Knute Nelson, "I never lose sight of the fact that had it not been for the Republican Party, I never would have been an office-holder of any kind-from 1862 to the present." In words that became famous, he described his party as "the party of Lincoln...which unshackled the necks of four million human beings." He wrote this line on September 12, 1912, in a letter expressing his anxiety over the looming presidential election. In that letter, he concluded: "I ask that every colored man in the North who has a vote to cast would cast that vote for the regular Republican Party and thus bury the Democratic Party so deep that there will not be seen even a bubble coming from the spot where the burial took place." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Smalls
