Good morning. Debbi here. My husband is one of those people who tends to have high cholesterol even though he is average weight. He loves it when I make sloppy joes veggie style. I made this for him and he loved it! I followed the recipe ( somewhat), but I added green peppers and carrot strings and I added the whole can of pumpkin. Delicious and healthy! PS I live in Cincinnati and using cinnamon (and chocolate) in cooking is normal here (Cincinnati Chili).

I make pumpkin chili, and it's the same concept, using pumpkin and the pumpkin pie spice. It's my favorite way to make chili.
@Survivin2Thrivin2 ай бұрын
Once upon a time, while making homemade chili, I dumped WAY too much cayenne pepper into the pot. The ingredients, while not necessarily expensive back then, weren't cheap (this occurred about 5yrs ago, I think it was), SOOOooo, I read up on topic & discovered it's a suggestion for those type accidents to add pumpkin puree in the pot to cool it down. It WAS edible after that addition. Still too hot for even my liking but @ least it didn't go to waste. It tasted pretty good though, I doubt I'll make it again, but it wasn't too bad, just couldn't taste the pumpkin much (not a whole lot of taste period: 🔥 had too much cayenne)-well, on 2nd thought, I might try the chili with pumpkin again. I'll look for a recipe & try it again as well as these sloppy joe pumpkin burgers because it seems a great way to add hidden veggies for the kids.

This sounds a lot like a sweeter, milder version of North African dishes. They also use "minced meat", usually goat or lamb, and a variety of aromatic spices. One big difference is that they use various combinations of stewed peppers instead of tomato-y ingredients. Gotta try this.

Circleville Pumpkin Show is just one county over. The greatest free show on earth event has been around since 1903. Everything is pumpkin related, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin fudge, the pumpkin burger, and so on. Lindsey's Bakery, in business for 50 years displays the world's largest pumpkin pie, 14ft in diameter. Huge pumpkins, parades, many vendors of all sorts, amusement rides. We use to go nearly every year, but parking is a big problem, that is the downside of having a street festival.

Tom & Melissa, I can’t wait to make this for my husband, who loves sloppy joes. I have a recipe for a chili, the secret ingredient is pumpkin and it’s is absolutely delicious! To us, the addition of pumpkin helps to tame the acidity and spice in the chili, making it kinder to your stomach. I need to share it with you guys. I've not ever tried using the allspice, nutmeg or cloves as in Cincinnati chili (or at least the recipe that I just read) but I just might have to give it a try next time I make a pot of chili. I use chili powder, cumin, chipotle/cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, mexican oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, s&p (and maybe forgetting one or two off the top of my head since I simply just pulled the spice bottles out of the cabinet)
